Eating Exotic Opossum Meat in Grenada!!
This is exotic Caribbean food, and today I’m eating opossum, otherwise known as manicou. This is wild opossum stew, Caribbean bush meat cooked from start to finish. Opossum in Grenada is real local culture, real survival food, and I’m here to see exactly how it’s prepared.
The Caribbean is famous for beaches, seafood, and tropical fruit, but there’s another side to island eating most people never touch. Today we go deep into Grenadian wild meat, watching the full process, then tasting manicou in Morne Gazo, rich, sweet and savory, the kind of stew that sticks to your ribs.
MORNE GAZO: A local cook makes manicou (opossum) with bake, and that bake is the perfect sponge for the gravy. The flavor hit me like a cousin of Guyanese pepperpot, dark, warming, and unforgettable.
Then at night, we switch gears to pure island luxury with fresh grilled lobster, garlic butter, Creole lambie (conch), garlic bread, and mashed yams. Wild and refined, in the same day, in the same place.
