Deep in the Siberian taiga lies the abandoned village of Tvaïan. Fifty years ago, this remote settlement was a Soviet state farm, or sovkhoz, complete with a school, a post office, and dozens of residents working the surrounding land.

But in the 1970s the farm became unprofitable. The Soviet authorities gradually lost interest in the settlement and eventually abandoned it. One by one, the villagers left.
