Guys I may come out here to kiki with you guys to gossip to slander these houseplants you know
to laugh and all of that but what a lot of you do not realize is that the month of March
has literally been hellish for me and I think I also speak for a lot of Nigerians as well
this country is in the midst of a massive heat wave deforestation our horrible building practices
of covering everywhere with concrete has finally started to catch on us y'all the weather this
month has been incredibly hot my plants are suffering my outdoor plants are suffering y'all
I'm going to take you guys on an extended tour on a follow-up video to see the full state
of what this wicked Nigerian sun has done to my plants but the struggle has been real many of
these plants have fried to pieces and honestly it has really made me question and destrategize
how I collect and grow plants watch the end of this video to know my plans moving forward in
terms of gardening outdoors in this country and the type of plants I want to start getting but
oh jesus to make matters worse there's barely any electricity the country has been having
rolling blackouts honestly guys it has really why does this keep happening you see what I mean
you see the stress I'm going through the country has been experiencing rolling blackouts sometimes
we're averaging three just three hours of electricity in a heat wave oh jesus it has
honestly affected my productivity as a content creator sorry for the lamentations but all of
this to say much has truly truly been challenging for my home my garden and for a lot of Nigerians
however I have noticed that there are certain plants that have defied the odds
and are truly truly excelling regardless of the circumstances and the challenges
they have taken my inconsistent watering to my surprise they've been able to take the
hellish Nigerian sun I'm not talking about your sun loving plants I'm talking about plants
that conventionally we've been told to green shade oh so ladies and gentlemen I want to give
them their coins today and just showcase them also these plants have truly been giving me joy
they've been making me happy they've been restoring my sanity in such treacherous times
so I want to showcase them today and give them their flowers and their coins and please just
The first plant I want to spotlight is my Monstera my large form Monstera she's too huge
I can't bring her here and hold her in my arms with me but she's out there doing her thing
honestly speaking this plant continues to surprise me every single heat wave she says yes I can take
it and she stands so regally and beautifully defying the wickedness of the Nigerian sun
she just gives me hope and inspiration to move on to forge ahead to remain beautiful despite
the harsh weather honestly I wasn't under the belief that Monsteras could take intense sun
which for the most part is the case but if you acclimatize them gradually
a lot of them as they mature will be able to withstand the wickedness of the sun in whatever
hellfire country you live in and this one has just been able to do that we've had a few close calls
there's some slight sunburn on the leaf or two but for the most part she just beautifully handles
the evil sun and I also love the fact that she shades she's now acting as a shade plant for some
of the other girlies within my um veranda so um Monstera deliciosa large form I want her to
know that she's a love she's appreciated I'm thankful for her existence I can see her here
I love you girl daddy loves you okay now this next one cameraman can you pass the plant for me
hello that's part of your job it's the plants this one here yeah do you think I should sack
this cameraman let me know do I sack him in the comment section I think I should I think I should
just joking babes this Alocasia chanteria I can't pronounce her full name but oh my goodness I'm so
glad I got this Alocasia in my collection because she has honestly restored the hope I have for the
Alocasia genus Alocasia this month have honestly shown me their true devilish colors they have
become spider mite factories and at one point I asked myself why did I buy so much why did I buy
so much the spider mites have honestly taken advantage of the hot weather and the fact that
the soil stays dry gets dry really faster and they've just proliferated on them for some I've
when you see this girl oh I'm getting emotional you see the Alocasia chanteria I can't pronounce
her name not only has she remained spider mite free despite the evil heat but to my surprise
this babe was also able to take the intense sun I did eventually have to move her to shade you
don't want to stretch it too much with these plants I did eventually have to move her to shade
but for some time she was able to take the intense evil sun also to my surprise she has been able to
go quite a few days without being watered despite the fact that her soil dries out really fast
due to the intense heat oh my god look at her while still being beautiful while still being
fast growing she just breathed this leaf honestly this plant has just made me happy like when I'm
when I'm just tired of this country and I step out and I see this plant I'm happy it restores
my sanity it makes me happy gives me hope so Alocasia chanterica I can't pronounce her name
but I'm just hoping that she continues to behave because for lots of these plants once you start
singing their praises you will continue to behave like a good plant name of Jesus for lots of these
plants once you start singing their praises they start to honestly act crazy but hopefully not the
Alocasia chanterica I 100% recommend 100% recommend it can it it is a tough one it's a tough one okay
now let's move over to one that has the reputation for dropping leaves yeah this has the reputation
for dropping leaves at the slightest inconvenience and I remember when I got this plant my friend
told me to treat it like an egg in essence don't move it around too much and certainly do not
expose it to the Nigerian sun well oh she has proven everyone wrong yo ladies and gentlemen
I'm talking about the ficus triangularis the variegated ficus triangularis to my surprise
this young lady has been able to take evil Nigerian sun I'm sweating y'all this is what I mean
the heat in this country is enough to kill whoo this young lady has been able to take
the intense sun and she has also been able to withstand the occasional periods of inconsistent
watering while still being beautiful I have not had maybe just lost one or two leaves but
for the most part since I got this plant in my care two months ago I've not had any cause for
regret and she has truly been giving me joy during this period just staring at her leaves
I love when the plant is variegated and can withstand direct sunlight it's always like a bonus
especially if you live in another country unlike my variegated monstera I'm gonna insert
b-rolls that one just looks like a hot mess and I've given up on them trying to grow a decent
looking specimen it's just impossible to do so given the heat of this nation whether indoors
or outdoors but this one oh look at her cameraman I hope you're getting her beauty she's so beautiful
this one has truly been giving me joy and I cannot wait until it grows into a beautiful
tree this hot period has really made me appreciate my ficuses except maybe the fig that was
burning which I was so surprised by but for the most part my ficuses have just done well in this
hot weather and I want to definitely include more of them in my collection going forward
I remember I made a video advising y'all not to get this plant well I think we've forgiven each
other and the trick has been not to tamper with the roots I keep saying don't tamper with the
roots of your plants especially your ficuses and then they are gonna behave more so yeah
ficus reparatus now speaking of a variegated plant that can withstand this Nigerian sun
oh hold on hold on ladies and gentlemen the only epipremium that I've been able to grow
outside in this full sun the epipremium that's been able to withstand the intense
sun of this nation has been my epipremium pinnatum marble the other girlies the mandrilla
pothos was looking bleached as hell but you see this young lady just look at this she's growing
in full crazy sun she's completely unshaded I don't have a lot of shaded space in my garden and
I have quickly run out of shade I only have just a small sliver of shaded space and the other plants
I've honestly had to put up with the sun and she does not seem to mind she does not seem to mind
while being absolutely beautiful and absolutely fast growing this plant has truly been a source of
joy in these perilous times I mean the golden pothos is a classic but this will not stay
outside in the sun like this will fry immediately however this just she can take the sun to my
surprise and while still being beautifully variegated so I'm honestly really really really
impressed by this plant and I'm just so happy with it and thankful for its existence in my life
my philodendrons have honestly been a mixed bag some of them can take direct sun but they've had
their limits my bilete looks like a faded sun bleached hot mess my berkey looks like a sacrificial
burnt offering my mellow christ and I had to move this indoors oh jesus don't worry I'm going to
an honest look at what's the state of my garden it's um it's not truly looking the best um but
there are two philodendrons that have honestly honestly just surprised me honestly just surprised
me and um I need to spotlight them I need to showcase them the first is going to be the
florida beauty the florida beauty I forgot to carry the florida beauty here with me but I'm
I have showcased this plant so many times in my videos but honestly ever since I got this plant
I've had no cause for regret at all and this period even more so I'm amazed that despite
her variegation she's able to withstand intense heat able to withstand intense sun and just grow
beautifully you know and also able to withstand just periods of drought because I have been it
has honestly been a struggle to keep all these plants hydrated I truly deserve an award for
honestly keeping this plant alive in this weather because having to water them constantly almost on
a daily basis has truly not been for the week and I'm thankful for plants like the florida
and despite moments of drought so philodendron florida beauty
needs to be on this list I cannot recommend that plant enough even though I recently propagated it
sold it no matter what I do to it it just stays beautiful which is what I really love about that
plant there is another philodendron oh my goodness I'm sweating Jesus there is another philodendron
that I haven't spotlighted in a hot minute but honestly to my surprise come rain come sunshine
my plant still looks beautiful she's a very slept on philodendron and I think she truly deserves her
coins cameraman please help me pass some philodendron over there thank you ladies and gentlemen I'm
silver sword the philodendron silver sword has tried to kill this plant
but to my surprise she stands strong and defiant she's like I don't care I will take
I will take whatever you give me and still try and that is what she has been doing I recently
moved her to shade because um I don't want to push the limits of this plant there's only so
much they can take but for a long time she was exposed outside of shade in this hellish country
and honestly she she look at her almost unscathed although if you come a bit closer especially at
the tip of her leaves you can see some um you know some sort of um warning but for the most part
she's fine she did have a nasty trip infestation on one leaf this is classic trip damage but
cameraman you do want to come closer look at it yeah but that she's been treated and she's now
trips free and she has started to mature the leaves have started to mature so I'm just very
happy with this one honestly truly truly defied the odds and defied the hellish weather
and remained beautiful as a result so yeah philodendron hashtag the rest of my other
philodendrons I want you to put them in your prayers they are going through it going through
it so babes let's have a realistic conversation on the way forward okay what is the way forward
for my collection and what's the way forward for my garden so I told myself I cannot keep
fighting nature and I cannot keep walking against it and I also need to realize that
I have limited shade I just have a sliver of space in my veranda where the shade net is
that is the only shaded part of my garden the rest are honestly at the mercy of the Nigerian sun
so it doesn't make practical sense for me to keep buying these shade plants I know the shade loving
house plants are generally the ones that tend to create the buzz and the ones that we love to
collect as collectors but I think I need to wake up and smell the coffee so what I've decided to
do is just limit the amount of shade plants I actually bring into my garden I feel like I have
enough I have enough of this shade needing plants I mean look at them I have enough I have enough
right and I can still make content out of what I have so what I want to do instead is just get
sun loving plants I mean in as much as I slander the Nigerian sun and call it evil
the plants that love it are absolutely flourishing
I need to honestly stop fighting against nature and just stick to what works best for my climate
and growing these plants indoors honestly has this fair share of challenges for one
electricity like I said in this part of the world is extremely erratic I have a grow light a good
grow light but there's barely enough electricity to power the grow lights y'all so I think I just
need to work with within my limitations and make the best of them as opposed to you know trying to
just struggling against my reality it doesn't I mean it sounds like I'm giving up but I honestly
I'm not I'm just re-strategizing so going forward I'm going to be getting more sun loving plants
and just painting the shaded plants and the shaded collection I have that is pretty much the way
forward thankfully the rainy season starts next month but realistically speaking March April May
the three hottest times of the year like it's literally hellfire months in this country
I know the weather will start to cool off in June so we still have roughly two months of
hellfire weather wish me luck and continue to put this plant in your prayers okay
anyways that's it I hope you enjoyed this video please let me know your thoughts in the comment
section advise me as well give me some advice during this treacherous period in the comment
section and if you if the lord touches you to send your boy a tip something I can use to get a
bottle of coke to cool off in this heat then goodbye alright my lovers goodbye let me go shower
and see you in the next video
