Alright, it is December 27th, Friday.
Getting my partner in crime back here.
We're going to go up into Middle Fork Canyon and try to stay in the night.
It's supposed to get pretty damn cold.
We'll be a little bit east of Eaton, Utah.
It's telling me it's 27 degrees right now.
I think I've got the gear to handle it.
This is kind of a test of myself, my dog, and my gear.
So, we'll see what happens.
I mean, really worst case scenario.
If it gets too cold, I'll just pack up and come home.
I thought it was actually farther back.
I think it's right by those pine trees over there.
Just down there at the bottom.
So, I think we're in the home stretch.
We're going to get there and kind of decide how we want to tackle this.
Originally, I thought about setting up my hammock,
but I'm a little worried about my dog getting cold.
So, I think I might, if I can find a dry spot, go on the ground.
So that we can both snuggle, if you will.
But, we'll make that call once we get there.
I think we got where we want to be as far as figuring out where to camp.
I was going to put a hammock up over in those trees over there.
There's a few spots.
There's an old fire pit I'd have to dig out.
I'm just worried that I might get too cold tonight for my dog.
This might be where we sleep tonight.
I think we got our fire started.
Probably need to go get a little more wood.
Still pretty, fairly warm.
It's starting to cool off a little bit.
Try and get this fire going good and get a bed of coals so I can cook some food.
Brought me a nice fat steak to eat tonight.
Well, it's about a quarter after five.
It's going to start getting dark and cold from here on out.
It's already getting cold.
He's doing his dinner.
I'm about to throw mine.
I think it's going to be time to climb into the sleeping bag and try to stay warm.
It's going to be a cold ass night.
This is pretty much what we've got set up for beds.
Obviously, I'm in the sleeping bag.
Notion's in the fleece and army jacket.
Try and keep both of us warm.
I expect it's going to get below zero tonight.
My battery's about dead.
I should have brought two.
This cold's killing it fast and it has gotten cold.
Well, it's about 6 30 at night.
Maybe seven.
I didn't really look at the time.
Temperature has dropped.
It is damn cold.
But this is kind of where we're at.
It's toggled around the fire trying to stay warm.
It's the morning.
It's only about 3 30 in the morning.
But I think we're going to go ahead and get out of here.
Sleeping on the ground sucks for me.
I've been up tossing and turning since about two.
And we got about a two hour hike out of here.
So we're going to head back.
We've been on trail about a half hour, 45 minutes.
Maybe hard to tell exactly where I'm at in the dark.
As far as how far we've came.
I don't know if you can see that.
It's blowing and snowing a little bit on us.
I'm not even sure if you can call that snow.
It looks more like ice.
Luckily, the gears holding up.
I'm staying pretty warm.
Just coming down the trail.
I don't know what it was.
I didn't hear or see anything, but it was an awful stench.
I don't smell it now.
Something was there.
Something was in the area.
I keep thinking I see somebody ahead of me, which is weird.
