Oh dear, that's not good is it? Oh no, that's really not good.
I've got about 10 minutes before my race run so just easing myself on to this.
Following an American and being chased by a Brazilian. Yeah, that's me.
Why do we do it, hey? Why do we do it?
Hello guys, welcome back to the channel. Now, here we are. It is finals day. I'm pretty stoked
to make the main event. The top 32, I believe, made it in from qualifying yesterday. It was one
of those where I wanted a safe run to make sure I got to the bottom. Because it's so fast, I feel
like a crash would definitely eliminate you from the main event. Here we are, we're on our way.
Let's go and check it out. First lift, going on up. I think we're going to try and get two runs
before that's it. We're going a nice chill first run as a warm-up. Second run, we're
laying down a bit. Let's get it. Track maintenance for that last finish,
that was horrible. I'm glad they're getting rid of all those rocks and stuff.
Possibly the most dangerous part of the track was right after the finish jump.
We like it. Well, no, you come, you sprint a little bit and then you crash into the barrier.
When you're tired, you have to run. All right, there we go, on our way up.
Ready for first practice run. First riders on track.
They're warming up their tires. Trying to pedal, not because they want to go faster,
because they want to actually warm up. I'm going to have a little cruiser,
see if the bike's all good, I'm all good, and then maybe ramp it up for second run.
Ready and raring for a little warm-up run. Little cruise, but we're just going to hit
these first jumps fast to see how kicky it is. This one, I really didn't like.
I pedal this bit to hit this next bit fast,
and then it's time to tuck in, which you don't really do in the UK.
Hitting this jump flat out, no brakes. Oh, dear.
Oh, no. At least we use this as a little thing to see the track outside there,
and inside now rather than out. Then again, have a little look at this next section.
This is the double drop, and this one is transfer over to the left, and then it opens up the next
turn. That's like the main line where you land in all the holes, and you get pushed out to the
left. That's our reason we're going to jump to the left, so it can open up that new turn.
Yes, that's main line. You can see main line, it just pushes you left,
and then they're fighting to go on that inside. We're going to come to the right there,
jump across there, and start on that inside. Then this obviously for finals,
you end up pedaling like a lunatic. Left run of that, get up the moguls.
Oh, dear, that's not good, is it? Oh, no, that's really not good.
Not what I wanted to see. I'm going right to left here,
bit smoother, coming in here, big step down, and there we go.
10.34, 10.45 it shuts. Probably what is the final practice run before racing,
timed it pretty well. We've got some rest. We've got away pretty lightly with catching
other riders up. That run, unfortunately, we caught someone up, but we made the most of it
and had a little look at the double drop. I still think it is worth breaking a bit,
cutting over, so then you get the next section pretty sweet. We're now going to go all the way
to the top, and this is probably going to be it, ready for finals. Let's bring it.
What an amazing place. Look at that. So crazy to think we had snow the first couple of days
we were here. We're nearly at the top, as you can see. We're going to go through the motions of a
race run now. I'm going to go and go for a little whizzer. Then we're going to go on a turbo trainer
as they have them up here, and then we'll see what we can put down. The track is obviously
way rougher than it was yesterday. Obviously, you can't see from the GoPro from here, but
it's all sand. It's flat out, but seriously good fun. I think other people have got the
same idea. There's a bit of a queue. You didn't think I'd take you with.
Pretty lucky to have these turbo trainers at the top of the hill, look.
Here we are. Final run before race run. Let's get it.
That's a bit sketchy, but I've got to suck it up.
Committed. Went a bit deep in there.
It's getting high.
That's horrible. I've got to go right here for me to bump.
We're not high on this.
Go wide. We're not getting wide right now. We're relying on that.
Even for this. Tuck in.
I think it's a little too much off the left here.
It wasn't overly tiring, which is a bad thing. It shows I could have given a bit more, but
we'll take it. What a scene. What a scene. Quality.
Well, there we go. That was a run. That was all right. It wasn't like mental fast. I know I could
have given it a bit more, but I'm pretty stoked with that. Be interested to see what time it is.
Now I'm going to go back to the hotel, have a little calm down, sort the bike out,
bike check, all that good stuff. Then we get some lunch.
We are then on our way, ready and raring for finals.
I see the other side. Why do we do it? Why do we do it?
Just over 30 minutes before my run. Hopefully this lift takes around 15 to 20, 10 minutes at
the top. Got you guys with me on the visor mount. It seems a bit weird that UCI give me permission,
but British Cycling don't always give you permission. It's one of those things. We're
on our way. Hopefully we have 10 minutes at the top to do a little warmup and then it's go time.
Got about 10 minutes before my race run, so just easing myself on to this,
do a couple of squats and stuff in a minute, and then we're good to go.
Here we are then, following an American and being chased by a Brazilian. Yes, that's me.
Why do I go slower? Slower in mains.
Oh, mate, that's annoying. Hold on, bro. I don't get it. Everyone's being said 230,
and then qualifying the finals. That's so annoying. How does that work?
Well, there we go. I'll be totally honest, I am a little bit disappointed because in training,
I've been doing sub 230 and not trying. I think that's the key. I go and try, I go and pedal,
and then obviously more pedaling, more braking, and then it almost screws it up.
All in, we've survived and I'll take that. I don't know where I'm finished just yet,
but I crossed the line in second. Obviously, I've seeded 15th. Worst case scenario I could be is
17th, if that's my maths. Obviously, now we're going to go and check out Rowan who won his
category. I'm super stoked for him, so let's go and see him. We've had some time to calm down a
bit from the race run, a little bit annoying. However, there's one man who's made it up,
Mr. Cham. Good run? Yes, it was. It was actually a hard track. It's so fast, but
yes, I went a little bit quicker than quali. Yes, I'm stoked. I'm really stoked.
We're waiting on Rowan's podium. We're having some beers so he can sing
God Save the King. God Save the King. What? This is my category.
There he is, the main man. Ready and raring.
All right, there we go. What a way to finish. One of us has at least got a white jersey.
Hopefully, you guys have enjoyed today's video. A bit different, a little disappointed, but
glad he's got on the box. Hopefully, you've enjoyed it. If you have, it'd be great if you
give it a thumbs up. If you're sick, please subscribe. Until next time, see you in a bit.
