A Tiny Home with a “Stage” That Changes Everything

Architects: Takanori Ineyama Architects
Area: 99 m²
Year: 2022
Photographs: Koichi Torimura
Location: Hayama, Japan

Stage in Hayama by Takanori Ineyama Architects is a compact 99-square-meter residence that reimagines its sloped coastal site by elevating the main living space to create a strong connection between interior and garden. Positioned toward the northern edge to maximize southern light and views, the house features a terrace-like “stage” that extends daily living outdoors, while a split-level layout subtly separates private and communal areas. Large vertical windows, a hybrid wood-and-steel structure, and carefully designed overhangs enhance spatial openness, natural lighting, and climate responsiveness, resulting in a home that feels both flexible and deeply connected to its surroundings.
