This House HIDES the OCEAN… Until You Walk Inside

At first glance, this house looks almost closed to the Pacific Ocean.

But the design hides a surprising idea.

The Mandakovic House, also known as Casa Carlos Cortés, sits on the Chilean coast facing one of the most open landscapes imaginable. Instead of opening completely toward the horizon, the architects from WMR Arquitectos chose a different strategy.

From the outside, the house appears compact and controlled, protecting its interior from the strong coastal winds. But once inside, the ocean slowly reveals itself through carefully positioned windows and openings.

Rather than offering a single panoramic view, the architecture frames the landscape piece by piece — turning the act of discovering the ocean into part of the spatial experience.

This project shows how architecture can shape the way we see a place.
