Gold has recently been as high as almost $5,500 an ounce, and in January, silver spiked to $121,
its highest price in history, and then crashed over 40% in just two days.
Many investors panicked. They dumped everything, but that may have been the wrong move.
Often, the investors who profit the most in setups like these aren't the ones who run.
They're the ones who have a system to separate the real opportunities from the noise.
I ran the entire gold mining industry through our quantitative model at WallStreetZen,
and I found six mining stocks with massive upside potential.
We're going to do it in countdown style, ending with the highest-rated gold stock in the entire
system out of the 51 miners we reviewed. By the way, I'm Steve Reitmeister. I spent more
than a decade as editor-in-chief of Zax.com, and I'm currently a partner at WallStreetZen.com,
where our quant team analyzes thousands of data points to find special opportunities
exactly like these. If you want to find more stocks like these before they run higher,
then hit that like button now. Okay, before we move on to the stock picks themselves,
let's quickly go over the macro setup. Here's what most people are getting wrong right now.
Silver hit $121 in late January. Okay, great. And then crashed over 40% in two days.
It was the worst single-day drop since 1980, but think about what actually caused that move.
The CME and other derivatives marketplaces hiked margin requirements. Chinese authorities
tightened margins on their exchanges as well. And the nomination of Kevin Warsh as the next Fed
Chair kind of spooked the market. Leveraged future traders got margin calls and were forced to sell.
So to sum it up, paper contracts got liquidated, but the fundamentals haven't broken down.
And the proof, gold dipped to $4,400 in that same crash and is already back above $51.50. Okay,
that kind of recovery doesn't happen without serious buyers stepping in.
Central banks bought 863 tons of gold in 2025 alone. They're diversifying away from the dollar
and that creates a price floor under gold that didn't exist 10 years ago. Silver story is more
interesting because of solar panels and EVs and AI data centers. They all need silver and lots of
it. Silver supply has actually been below demand since 2021. And here's why that's so hard to fix.
Only about 25% to 30% of the world's silver comes from actual silver mines. What? The remaining 70%
to 75% is produced as a byproduct of mining copper, lead, zinc, and gold. So even when
silver prices spike, miners can't just ramp up silver production. They'd have to increase copper
and zinc mining first, and that takes years. So the fundamentals haven't changed. What changed
is the price. And that's creating an opportunity for us right now. The question isn't whether to
be owning mining stocks, it's which ones. And out of the 51 gold and silver miners in our system,
only a handful scored high enough to make the cut. So here are the six best in reverse order,
ending with the single highest rated mining stock we track. Stock number six is Wheaton
Precious Metals with a symbol of WPM. Wheaton offers a way to invest in gold and silver without
any of the operational headaches of actually mining. It's actually a streaming company for
miners. So what the heck does that mean? They write checks to miners up front in exchange for
the right to buy metal at locked-in prices for decades. Recently, Wheaton announced a $4.3
streaming deal with BHP for silver from their Antamina mine in Peru. That's the largest streaming
transaction in history. It tells you something when the world's biggest mining company chooses
Wheaton as their partner. Now, their cash costs run under $500 per gold ounce equivalent. And at
current gold prices north of $5,000, that gives them a cash operating margin of over $4,500 per
ounce. No traditional miner comes even close to those margins. And they just updated their outlook.
Production is expected to grow roughly 50% to 1.2 million gold equivalent ounces by 2030,
up from $692,000 last year. That BHP deal alone adds 11% over last year's production.
OK, Wheaton carries a B rating according to Zen Ratings, which translates to a buy because it's
in the top 20% of all stocks we analyze. The P around 70 reflects the premium investors pay for
the safety of these shares. And yeah, that P is a tad high. But if metals pull back further,
wouldn't Wheaton pulls back too, just less than the actual miners? Now, let's call this the
sleep easy at night pick on our list today, because if you want precious metals exposure
with minimal risk, Wheaton is the gold standard of streaming. Moving on to stock number five,
we have Newmont with a symbol of NEM. Now, this is the blue chip giant that too many people are
overlooking. When the biggest pension funds and sovereign wealth funds want gold exposure,
they buy Newmont, right? It's the world's largest gold producer with a $135 billion market cap.
Right now, it's a cash flow machine, unlike anything we've seen in gold mining.
Newmont delivered a record 7.3 million in free cash flow in 2025 alone. Their all in sustaining
cost was just 1358 per ounce for the full year. And the realized cost or the realized price they
got for that was 4216 per ounce. That's nearly a 3000 profit margin on every ounce they pull out
the ground. They use that excess cash to slash 3.4 billion in debt, return another 3.4 billion
to shareholders, and they end the year net cash positive. That's a complete balance sheet
transformation in a single year, something certainly to take note of. On top of that,
they have massive gold reserves, roughly 40 years of production lifespan at current rates of mining.
No other peer has that long of a runway, which is a great part of Newmont's investment appeal.
Production is expected to be slightly lower in 2026, around 5.3 million ounces down from 5.9
last year, and costs are expected to rise to about 1680 per ounce. But as gold is above 5000,
the margins are still enormous. Worth noting, the drop in production is mostly because they
divested some non-core mines throughout 2025. Now, Newmont is framing 2026 as a transition year
before a new growth phase starts in 2026. This is the Berkshire Hathaway of gold mining. You're
not buying Newmont because it's going to triple in the year ahead. You're buying it because the
safest, most reliable way to bet on gold prices is staying elevated because they have a fortress
balance sheet with strong fundamentals. Okay. Before we move on to the next gold miner,
let me ask you something. Are you the kind of investor who wants data-driven stock picks

Moving on to stock number four, we have Pan American Silver with a simple P-A-A-S,
a silver pure play with real value in the shares. Now, we step up to an A-rated territory with
these stocks. That puts them in the top 5% of all Zen Ratings stocks that we analyze. Historically,
these are the top-performing stocks and the reason why we want to load up on A-rated stocks.
This pick is really a bet on the bullish silver thesis we talked about earlier.
While everyone was chasing bigger names like First Majestic and Hetcla, it turns out that
Pan American was quietly assembling the biggest silver platform in the industry.
They operate mines across seven countries. And last September, they completed a very large
$2.1 billion acquisition of MagSilver that added a stake in the Juanicipio mine, one of the highest
grade silver mines on the planet, with an all-sustaining cost of just $6 to $8 per ounce
to get it out of the ground. Now, the impact of this strategic move is already showing up
in their numbers. A full year 2025 revenue hit $3.6 billion, up 28% year-over-year, and earning
surge to just shy of $1 billion. And they just discovered new high-grade silver zones at their
La Colorado mine, which tells you this company isn't done growing just yet. Now, geographic
diversification gives Pan American an edge over smaller silver mines. When you're operating in
seven different countries throughout the Americas, a political disruption in one jurisdiction
doesn't take out your entire production base. That's the kind of resilience investors are
looking for. Now, Pan American carries an A rating overall, given the full scan of 115
fundamental factors. On top of that, they also score a strong A for momentum. Now,
at $65 a share and a PE around 25, this isn't a deep value play. But that's not the point.
If you believe silver's structural supply deficit is going to persist, and I showed you why it
likely will, then you want the largest, most diversified silver producer in your portfolio,
and that's Pan American. I'm curious, are you more bullish on gold or silver right now?
Drop your thoughts in the comment section below. I'd love to hear what you think on that one. Now,
we're moving on to the second half of our picks with number three in Kinross Gold with a symbol
of KJC, a cashflow powerhouse. Now, Kinross was actually a pick in my Zen Investor portfolio,
where I hand-select stocks using the Zen Ring system. I bought it for about $9.64 and sold it
just over a year later at $23.34 for a solid 142% gain. You never go broke taking profits,
but I got to tell you, since then, it's continued climbing. As I record right now,
it's in the mid-30s. Some might say the party is over. But what's changed since we sold Kinross
is that they've posted record cashflow, raised the dividend by 33%, and locked in three new
U.S. gold projects with a net present value of $4.3 billion. That's new information that didn't
exist when we locked in our profits. Now, the number that matters most with Kinross is an
earnings growth or revenue. It's return on equity, which is a stellar 30.6. That's nearly
double the gold mining average of 18.6. When a gold miner generates that kind of return on
capital, it tells you management isn't just riding out strong gold prices. They're running
a tight operation, and the seller cashflow backs that all up. Kinross generated a record $2.5
billion in free cashflow in 2025, ending the year with $1 billion in net cash on their balance
sheet. This allowed them to return $750 million to shareholders last year, and no doubt,
much more will be returned in the years ahead. Kinross ranks in the top 4% when looking at its
ZenRatings profile. It's also in the top 1% for financials and a not-too-shabby 7% for value.
That high score for value is truly astonishing when you consider how much the share price has
rallied. But it tells you that the fundamentals have improved even more than the share price,
leading to it still being an attractive valuation story today. Production is guided at 2 million
ounces per year through 2028, and those new U.S. projects give them the kind of forward visibility
that makes institutional money very comfortable in these shares. The risk here is, what if there
is a meaningful pullback in gold prices? Or what if any of their new mines have permitting delays?
But at current gold prices and the outlook for gold, which is still quite bullish,
the cash flow story is tremendous, and the street is still catching up to the upside potential of
these shares. Now, only two stocks left as we move on to SSR Mining with a symbol of SSRM.
This one's the hidden gem with a near-perfect Kwan score, but it's also the most controversial
pick on the list, and yet I'm still putting in the number 2 spot on purpose. Okay, in early 2024,
SSR Mining had a cyanide spill at its coppler mine in Turkey. The stock got obliterated,
it fell from over 15 to under 6. Lawsuits were filed, investors ran for the exits,
and Wall Street left the company for dead. But here's what most people miss. SSR Mining's other
assets in Nevada and Argentina kept on producing. The balance sheet stayed clean, cash flow kept
coming in, full year 2025 revenue recovered to $1.6 billion, up 64% from the coppler-impacted
And just a few weeks ago, management raised production guidance for 2026,
lifted reserves, and authorized a new $300 million share buyback program.
Now, look at the valuation. SSR Mining is trading at just 15.5 times earnings,
nearly half of their peers that are much closer to 30. Our system rates it an A overall,
and given what I shared above, there is no surprise that it also scores an A for value,
and the top 20% of all stocks for its growth ratings. But I need to be honest about the risk.
The Turkey situation carries real geopolitical, operational, and legal risk. The middle-of-the-road
C grade for safety in our model reflects that outlook. Now, if you're risk-averse,
this isn't the stock for you. But if you're a contrarian who understands the worst news is
probably already priced in, and a recovery is underway, the risk-to-reward ratio here is quite
exceptional. You're buying at a significant discount with a massive buyback supporting the
stock. Before we get to the last pick, if you want to see the full ZEN Ratings breakdown for every
stock on the list today, the link is in the description. And if you're looking for more
stocks with exciting upside potential, we've put together a free report you should claim now called
3 Stocks to Double this year. The link is in the description or scan the QR code that you see on
the screen. We have finally made it to the number one-ranked stock in the gold mining industry
according to the ZEN Ratings model. I am talking about IAMGOLD with the symbol IAG.
Again, out of the 51 gold miners in our system, and a lot of them are very highly rated,
we are talking about the highest-rated stock, looking at the quant review of 115 different
factors on fundamentals, momentum, and our unique AI factors in the model.
And the story behind it is one of the best turnaround narratives in the entire sector.
That's because 3 years ago, IAMGOLD was a struggling miner with a bloated balance
sheet and unfinished megaproject. This had shares trading for only $5.
Cody reached full capacity in 2025 and produced a record 106 ounces in Q3 alone. That's about
half of their total production. Company-wide, Q3 revenue hit $706.7 million and an average
realized price of $3,492 per ounce. Their all-in sustaining cost was $19.56 per ounce,
well below the industry average, and it's dropping as the Cody mine ramps up. This
points to strong and improving profit margins. For the full year, IAMGOLD generated $2.85 billion
in revenue and $1.5 billion in EBITDA. And here's the kicker. In 2025, they slashed debt by over
$500 million, including a large high-cost term loan. This greatly improved the balance sheet,
has allowed them to launch a large-scale stock repurchase program that is very shareholder
friendly. Now, IAMGOLD carries an A rating, no surprise here, which undersells the fact that it
is actually the 99.79 percentile, as in not the top 5% of stocks like our normal A-rated stocks,
we're talking about the top 0.2% of all stocks looking at this 115-factor review.
Now, they also earn strong A grades for value, momentum, sentiment, and financials. That is a
well-rounded report card worthy of being the top-rated stock in the industry. There are some
risks to consider here. First of all, the stock has already run from $5 per share to $23. That
makes it susceptible to hefty rounds of profit taking. Also note that the Cody mine is a 70-30
project venture with Sumitomo. So IAMGOLD captures only 70% of production, not 100%.
They also have the Esakande mine in Burkina Faso, which carries geopolitical risk. But most
everything that was wrong with this company has been fixed. The mine is built, the debt is gone,
the cash flow is real, and gold is above $5,000, and it's killing it with the zen ratings.
So which of these 6 gold mining stocks seems like the most promising pick to you?
