Norway’s Most Iconic Road… Ruined by Traffic? | Norway EP2

Oh my god. But it's okay. I can do it. I can do it. If I just tell myself I can do it. The mountains just keep getting more and more dramatic. Like look at those. There's just a huge line of cars. Okay but I have to get to the top. I just have to. Even though... For breakfast today I'm having some oatmeal and it's gonna be some oats, chia seeds, flax seeds, protein powder, and some peanut butter. Leaving this beautiful place now and we are headed to somewhere really exciting today. Actually two really exciting places. So let's go. So let's see if I can manage to get out of this place without falling this time. Now it's 9 a.m and it took me around like two hours to get ready this morning. It takes a lot longer than you'd expect because of the tent and the sleeping bag and the packing everything, making everything like fits on my motorcycle. Like because everything has a place. So yeah it does take some time. So I did wake up at 6 45 and now it's 9. So obviously I ate breakfast and stuff but yeah that's basically how long it takes me. But now we are back on the road again and it's a beautiful day. Not a single cloud in the sky, blue skies, and no wind. So I'm just super lucky with the weather. Today the two exciting stops are Torstegen and the Atlantic Ocean Road. And I think to the Atlantic Ocean Road it's about four hours. That will be like not the final stop but towards the end of my day. So yeah that's where we're headed to today. So I've arrived in a little town called Vågomå and it's very cute. Absolutely beautiful. So many wooden houses. It feels like I'm in the Alps. Yes this is where I'm going. Blåhø. It's supposed to be the top of a mountain with this incredible view. So I find it hard to believe that the views can get any better but I bet they can. Hi little sheep. We are doing a big climb on gravel roads. Like it is really steep and there are some sharp turns. So I'm just going slowly. Oh another Swede. Hello. I'm going so slow. It's okay I don't care. But this road was... Wow that climb was a little intense. Like the turns are obviously really steep and then there was this one turn where there was a sheep right in the middle of the road on this really steep turn and I was like uh yeah you have to move. But now you can see like how far the gravel road stretches. So we are almost at the top. I just stopped and spoke to that guy on the bike in front of us and he's been up here before. Yeah but he said today obviously it's beautiful weather so he couldn't he couldn't like resist because he had been here before. This is absolutely insane. This road and just wow. Okay we're 200 meters from the top. Oh wow. So what I didn't want to be true ended up being true. Driving this downhill on gravel roads. Oh my gosh. Driving downhill is way worse than driving uphill. Oh my god. But it's okay. I can do it. I can do it. If I just tell myself I can do it. At least the views will be like crazy. Yeah I met this really nice man up there. His name was Magnus. He helped me take some pictures so that was really nice of him. I think this gravel road in total was about like 20 kilometers. It's gonna be a slow drive down and uh yeah he's definitely gonna pass me at some point. I just cannot get enough of this these views. Like it's incredible just how far you can see and like the different kinds of mountains. I have to say this road is not good for my stress levels. Okay I made a wrong turn earlier so I had to reroute and yeah it's completely closed so sorry. Sorry sorry sorry sorry. Hello Dutch people. Wow imagine living out here. So it's like 30 degrees outside so I took a break here and I treated myself to an ice cream and it was one of the best ice creams I've ever had so I'm so glad I stopped here. And I also filled my water bottle, got some gas and now I'm ready to continue. Let's get back on the road. The next bit is supposed to be very nice. Now I've driven down to Romsdalen and there's a river just flowing through the between these mountains on either side and the water is just green and light blue. I think it's that means this glacier water is just so beautiful. The mountains just keep getting more and more dramatic. Like look at those. Those mountains are insane. So steep. I don't even know what to say. I've never seen anything like this just from like zero to a hundred. So I just arrived at Trollvegen. It's so sunny that you can not really see it. So many people have come up to me because I'm on a motorcycle especially Swedish people. So I just talked to another Swedish old man who uh yeah we just had a nice conversation. It was nice. So yeah now I'm headed to Trollvegen and the only thing I learned about this place was that it's Europe's tallest rock or it's it's Europe's tallest like wall like rock wall with jagged tops. Whatever that means. Now we're on Trollvegen. Oh wow okay. Okay I thought we were starting at the top and then going to the bottom but we are actually now at the bottom and going towards the top. So yeah Trollvegen is basically just a road that has many of these turns like 180 degrees turns and they are pretty steep. Oh my gosh can you see the line of cars? I don't think you can see it on camera but there's just a huge line of cars all along. Um damn I wonder if people are just maybe no it looks like they're just stopping hopefully. Okay but I have to get to the top I just have to even though it's gonna be it's gonna be a big traffic jam. This is gonna suck but the view is gonna be good from the top at least. I'm gonna see if I can pass it. It's good to be a motorcycle today. I wonder if people are stopping or why like what's going on? And there's someone biking up like bicycling up. Go him honestly. He's crazy but oh well. I like this tactic I'm just gonna follow this guy who's on the quad because I feel like he knows what he's doing. I don't know if it's a bus that's stuck or what. There's another motorcycle so I'm gonna go there. That was insane like I swear I was in there for one hour that line. I'm sweating so much. I'm not even at the top and I was in that line for like an hour. Are you kidding me? Oh I have no words. I really hope the view at the top was worth it for that. Is it fun to do the turns? Yes. Is it fun to stand on the line? No. I think if I would have started from the top I don't know if I would have driven it seeing what was down there you know. And the problem is like I might have to take the road back but I think I'm gonna avoid it as much as possible. This view is pretty insane already. This is 100% the most touristy place I've been so far. So at least there's bike parking at the front. So I'm happy about that. I feel like I just need a break after what just happened. But just like standing in that line with all those fumes in 30 degrees heat it was just too much. So I actually took off all my motorcycle clothes and decided that I just need a break. I was just sweating so much under all my motorcycle clothes and right now I'm walking out to the viewpoint to look over the road that I just drove. There's two viewpoints and I'm gonna go to both of them. I decided to hike up to yeah just some rocks over the over the road and I don't think I'm gonna drive it back down even though that's the way I want to go and the other way would be like a very big like wrong way. So I think I might find a camping spot close to here and then early tomorrow morning I'll drive this road back down and go towards the next stop that I want to go to. So it's okay but I feel like I needed a mental break and I need to recover from that road honestly oh my god. Anyways I'm just gonna sit here and just relax then. There are a lot of bikes here. Well that was very nice and beautiful stop. I mean the weather couldn't be better. It could be a little bit colder but I'm definitely not complaining about something like that. I can just feel though how wet my clothes are because of all the sweat. So because it's already 5 p.m I think I'm going to find a camp spot now not far from here and set up camp and just relax and then continue tomorrow early in the morning because if I can drive back the same way early in the morning I don't think there will be any traffic. So that's the plan for now at least. Made it to the campsite. This is one that I had to pay for which is fine because I couldn't find anything else. I don't think they have a lot of facilities just running water and a toilet that's it. It's right next to the stream that's really loud and I'm a bit afraid because I'm kind of sensitive to sound when I sleep but I have earplugs so hopefully it'll be fine. I'm back on the road again. So I decided that since this place costs money and it doesn't really have any facilities besides a bathroom I decided that there's this other camping spot like 10 minutes from here with like actual facilities and I can charge my computer and I can also charge my drone and shower so even if that one would cost more I think it'd be worth it to pay for something if I can get more out of it. I've made it to Gudbrandsjövet camping so let's see where the reception is. Maybe I have to go inside and pay I'm not sure. Yeah I'd rather pay a little bit more to stay here than pay for nothing you know and I've never stayed at one of these places actually. I've never stayed at a camping site like this so that's going to be fun as well. So and this is away from the water that's good for me. Okay let's go inside and pay. I'm so glad I came to this camping spot instead of the last one. It's just so cozy here and there's so many other motorcyclists and it just it feels really nice to be here and I got a warm shower which is really needed and very nice. So yeah I already made dinner and put up my tent and everything so I'm just gonna try to relax and get ready for a big day tomorrow as well. So today I didn't drive that far actually that many kilometers but it felt like I did a lot and I had a long day thanks to the gravel roads so I thought I'd show you on the map where I drove today. So basically I started this morning here. I drove up to Vogelmu and then I drove this little gravel road or long gravel road to the peak Blåhög and then I drove back, drove on this beautiful gravel road like this and then I drove on to the E136, drove it all the way up here through Romsdalen and then I turned left onto the very trafficked Trollstigen. Then I continued on. Now I'm down by Grönning. So I actually didn't drive that far today. I think it was 175 kilometers but it was still a very intense and fun day. I can't get enough of this landscape. Catching my first Norwegian ferry. Okay let's do it! Yeah yeah this way was was really nice.
