Module 2: Evaluating Environmental and Health Risks

Module 2 incorporates knowledge checks that reinforce the general learning. Module 2 defines and describes basic environmental health topics, including toxicology, epidemiology, risk assessment, and ATSDR’s public health assessment process. The module provides resources on each topic for more information. Module 2 describes environmental site assessments, including a sites assessment game to engage participants. It describes the tiered approach to cleanup, a risk-based approach to evaluating environmental and health risks. The module concludes with a case example about cleaning up a contaminated former church and redeveloping it into a children’s arts center. The module provides additional suggested reading from a supplemental and optional course textbook.
