Hello it's Alimihic. Have you turned on the windshield wipers and only one of them working?
So in today's video we're gonna see what causes that problem and show you how to fix it.
So the windshield wipers motor and the arms located under this cover.
Let's go ahead and pop the hood.
The plastic cover might be a long piece on your car but on this car in two pieces.
But we need to remove the wiper arms first in order to remove this cover.
Let's remove this cover and get a 14 millimeter wrench and break this nut loose.
The wipers are not gonna be removed from the shaft easily.
So I'm gonna spray some WD-40 and let it penetrate while we undo the other arm.
Next I'm gonna use slip joint pliers to remove the arms from the shaft.
There is a special tool for that but the slip joint pliers work good.
These plastic tap removing pliers will come in handy for removing tabs for interior and exterior.
All right let's go ahead and remove the cover.
So the first thing we can see the connecting arm between two wipers came off.
Let's remove the wire harness and remove the whole motor mechanism out so we can know
why it came off.
The whole unit being fastened with three 10 millimeter bolts.
We can snap the connecting arm back but I want to see why it came off so it won't happen again.
One side of the plastic joint is broken that's why it came off.
Even if you put it back it will comes off again.
So you can replace this link only but I bought the whole unit without motor.
So the new linkage wiper we need to undo these two 10 millimeter bolts for removing the motor
and this 12 millimeter for removing motor arm.
An easy trick for removing motor arm put a socket extender so it won't spin.
Next break the connecting arm free just like this.
Next undoing the 10 millimeter bolts so we can swap the motor with the new wiper linkage.
Swapping motor with the new wiper linkage is very easy.
Just put the new and the old linkage side by side with the same orientation
so you can only move the motor.
If the orientation changed for the motor or the linkage
the wipers will move in reverse or it won't line up the bolts.
If any of these happen to you it means the installation of the motor or the arms in reverse.
Another trick you can use a screwdriver when tightening motor arm
and then back it up and remove the screwdriver just like this.
Before putting back the wiper linkage it was a good time to clean this area
since it's not being cleaned from the factory.
So I cover the wire harness and the inlet cabin filter with plastic.
So I quickly rinse the dust off with pressure washer especially in the corners
and then use engine degreaser and agitate it with detailing brush and rinse it again.
Next using microfiber towel to wipe the area.
I like to use electronic contact cleaner on the wire harness
in case if there is any moisture left in the wire harness.
So the installation will be reverse of how we remove it.
Just put the bolts back and tighten it again and then put the wire harness back.
After putting the motor linkage back it should be something like this.
Now we can put the covers back on.
Some of the plastic tab broke when removing plastic cover
because it gets brittle over time.
So I got new ones and I'm gonna replace all of it with new ones.
Alright the plastic cover is secured now not moving.
Now we can put the wipers back on.
Make sure both wiper arms parallel together and then put the nut back on and tighten it back.
We are almost done putting the plastic caps back on and it should be something like this.
Before testing the wipers I found out the driver side wiper in bad condition.
The whole rubber tip is gone.
So I replace both wipers with new ones.
I also replaced the passenger side wiper even though it was in good condition
but the new ones I got better quality so it was better to replace both.
And now let's test them out.
With the new wiper and the motor linkage it's much quiet now.
So if you have broken linkage it's better to replace the whole mechanism.
Because when one linkage broke there is a good chance that
soon you will need to replace the bushings as well.
So that's it for this video.
Hope the video was helpful and learned something new.
If it was like and subscribe if you haven't already.
And I will see you in the next one.
Bye for now.
