Hello everyone, welcome back to my channel and welcome to a new chapter of my life.
Earlier this year I moved back to Lisbon, a city where I have lived in the past for a few years
while at university, a city that I have really grown to love so much, even though I spent the
last 8 years living in other places. This time, life brought me to a beautiful apartment in the
very beating heart of Lisbon, with plenty of beautiful light, tall windows and high ceilings,
just what I was dreaming of finding here, and it was love at first sight.
For these first few weeks, the apartment has been mostly empty, but I will bring you along
on my journey of decorating it over the next few videos, and I hope you enjoy this more homey
In the meantime, I want to bring you to a beautiful day in Lisbon, spent exploring the
area around Chiado, visiting a few beautiful cafes and lunch spots, and stopping at some of
my longtime favorite shopping places. These days, Lisbon, and particularly Chiado, is busy all year
round. On a beautiful day like this one, you will see so many locals and tourists going in and out
of the shops, sit at the restaurant's terraces, and overall enjoy a good stroll up and down
the iconic Lisbon hills.
One of my favorite places to visit, and one that usually doesn't have as many tourists around,
is the ruins of the old and grand gothic church at Carmo. It is incredible to watch the white
stone arches rising towards the blue of the sky, and it is impossible not to feel how monstrous the
18th century earthquake must have been from this now strangely quiet and calm desolating scenery.
For lunch, we headed to a picturesque little brunch spot with a direct view of one of the
most famous tram lines in Lisbon, the tram 28 climbing up and down Calçada de São Francisco.
We sat right by the window at Dear Breakfast as the trams passed right by our side,
and enjoyed Eggs Benedict and Eggs Halloumi before moving to an açaí and yogurt bowl.
Both the food and the drinks were delicious, and the environment at Dear Breakfast is so youthful
and light, perfect for a quick and easy lunch right in the heart of Lisbon. We even brought
a few pastries for later, which were also very good. We then climbed up towards Bairro Alto,
past Chiado, and stopped for a few moments at Mirador de São Pedro de Alcântara, where you
can have the most beautiful views of the Castle Hill and some of the most typical neighborhoods
in Lisbon, Alfama, Moraria and Graça. This is a perfect place to slow down and just relax
after exploring Chiado and the surrounding areas, with some of the best of the many
amazing views you can have in Lisbon, especially towards the late afternoon.
Our final stop of the afternoon was Cais do Sodré, right by the river, but on the way
down we made a quick pit stop at a Mantegaria to grab a couple of crispy,
golden and creamy pastéis de nata to eat while watching the sunset.
If there was only one thing I could take with me from Lisbon anywhere I go,
is this beautiful light, especially at sunset by the river Tejo.
All the way from Cais do Sodré, through Ribeira das Naus and into Terreiro do Paso,
the mood is super light and fun, with live music, cocktail glasses and beer bottles clinking,
the birds gliding above, the small waves made by the ferry boats that cross the river,
crashing into the rocks below us, and the golden Vincinco de Abril bridge standing
tall towards the open Atlantic Ocean. And this, for me, is the best spirit of Lisbon.
I am so very excited to bring you more of this beautiful city that I will now call my new home.
If you enjoyed this video, please make sure to like it and I would love to hear from you
what you would like to see the most from Lisbon and the surrounding areas in future videos.
Until then, sending you all my love.
