The Day Britain Arrived in America — Mayflower Landing, 1620
In November 1620, a small ship appeared off the cold shores of New England.
The vessel was the Mayflower, carrying English settlers who had crossed the Atlantic in search of a new beginning. When they stepped onto the pale sand near Plymouth, they believed they had reached an unknown land.
But they were not alone.
From the edge of the forest, the Wampanoag people watched the newcomers quietly. Two groups of people stood on the same shoreline, separated by a stretch of sand and uncertainty.
This video recreates that moment — the first silent observation between the settlers of the Mayflower and the Native people of the region.
