The FBI is now investigating Thursday’s shooting at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Virginia, as an act of terrorism.

“Our Joint Terrorism Task Force is fully engaged, embedded with local authorities, and providing all resources necessary in the investigation,” FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X.

The suspect who killed one person and injured two others at the university has been identified by authorities as Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a former member of the Army National Guard.  In 2016, Jalloh pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to the ISIS terrorist group, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). Jalloh was sentenced to 11 years in prison and was released from federal custody in December 2024.
