Bro, that's Indian. I'm Indian, I know my cultures music.
It's Ryan Seacrest, it's Ellen Kay, and it is our family member, Selena Gomez.
Hi, sis.
Hi.
How are you, Selena?
So good. How are you?
Very excited to have you.
Thank you.
You're like this entire cumulonimbus cloud of spirit and energy and positive vibe.
With great hair.
Yeah.
Naturally great.
Thank you.
I saw a curling iron in the green room and I used it.
Your hair looks good too, Ryan, by the way.
This is gel.
I like this look.
I'm using gel.
This is gel and day, I don't know, 100 on the no food diet.
Hair is always better, by the way, when it's dirty.
Is your hair dirty and clean?
Yeah, that's true.
No, because I wash it every day, but am I not supposed to do that?
Is it different for guys?
I think it's different for guys.
Yeah, you better.
I think we just say that it's really healthier for you so we don't have to wash our hair every day as a woman.
How often do women wash their hair?
Two to three times a week.
Yeah, a week.
Really?
Not every day.
We do it every single day.
I'm glad I have short hair because drying, the whole process you guys go through is way too much.
We have some very exciting momentum to capitalize on here.
Come and Get It, which is Selena's brand new song.
And I want to walk through a couple steps of putting this together.
We're going to play it in a minute, too.
So all of her, what are your fans called?
Selenators?
Selenators.
So all you Selenators, stand by, it's coming.
What can you tell us about it just to sort of set the scene for the mood?
Because there's a vibe to this song.
There is a vibe.
Honestly, I love that, though.
I feel like in this time in my life, I'm trying to exude confidence, and I think the song is very powerful, and it's fun, and it's a great introduction.
It does have a little tribal, Middle Eastern kind of feel to it, which I love.
Yeah, it's very vibey.
So I love that.
Now, you said that Taylor Swift, your buddy, and Skrillex were big inspirations in some way.
That is so weird to say.
And they're polar opposites.
So in what ways did they inspire?
Taylor inspires me in general.
I mean, she's just been my best friend, and she's played me so many of her amazing songs, and I'm really appreciative of her friendship.
And Skrillex did the soundtrack to Spring Breakers, so I was obsessed with, that's all he listened to when we were on set was that and rap to get into it.
So he was an inspiration for that.
But is there any feeling of Skrillex in this song we're about to play?
No, not in this.
I didn't think so.
Not in this, but the rest of the album, there's a couple of songs that were inspired by his kind of feel for sure.
Who did you play it for first in your tight circle?
Oh, my best friends.
Do they look at you when it's being played, or do they look around?
No, they're in their own world.
Were the Spring Breakers in the studio listening?
No, Vanessa's heard it, and she loves it.
It's very Vanessa, actually, because she's very into that kind of vibe.
Does she sway from hip to shoulder like that?
Yeah, she's doing some little Middle Eastern moves.
It's cool.
What about the video?
Oh, the video was so much fun to shoot.
It was incredible.
We kind of did like an earth, water, fire, water.
It was kind of—
Elements, all the elements.
Yeah, it was great.
It was really very organic.
When did you start making this song?
Like, how long ago?
Give me some time frame.
I've been recording the record since October of last year, so—
And how far along is the record?
It's finished.
It's done?
The whole thing's done?
Yes, it's finished.
Where is it?
Where's the whole record?
I don't have it either, exactly.
I don't have it either.
She doesn't know.
They won't let her.
It was a fun process to put it together.
It was the hardest I've ever worked on an album because I knew it was going to be a really interesting transition for me to make.
So, I spent about a couple of months figuring that out.
Come and Get It was actually one of the last ones, and I thought it was a perfect introduction to everything else.
So, that's kind of my gravitation.
I mean, I'm guessing, from knowing you, wasn't there an incredible feeling of independence and just being able to do this kind of music, the music that you truly wanted to do?
And I know it's definitely more emotional, a little bit deeper for you.
So, wasn't that an incredible thing to have?
I mean, I know it's tough, but also liberating in a way?
Absolutely.
I think so.
I mean, that's kind of been the place I've been in for film and music.
So, to transition into that and to actually be able to be behind the songs creatively is fun, too.
Let me read a lyric before we play it.
Okay.
I love you too much.
Much to hide you.
This love ain't finished yet.
Okay, so that's going to be, you're going to hear that in a second, and there's speculation about who those lyrics are about.
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
What are you willing to say about it?
It's about Ryan Seacrest.
I thought maybe it was James Franco.
Finally, the truth comes out.
No, it's honestly, to be 100% real, it's not really about a specific person.
The reason why I wanted this to be the first single was because it exudes, like I said earlier, confidence and strength, and that is something I'm willing to share with the world.
That's the place that I want to be in, and I want to represent something good and be a good example.
So, I think it's fun.
Okay, now, my question.
How many boys have asked you out in the last two months?
None.
I just can't believe it.
No, you should believe it.
