If you're afraid of speaking English in real life, this video might save you months or even years.
So before you waste more of your time memorizing more vocabulary or grammar,
before you sign up for another course, you need to understand one thing. Fear is not the enemy.
Your brain created fear to protect you and that's a good thing. There are two types of fears.
The first one is rational fear. For example, if you're walking alone at night and sense danger,
your brain activates fear to keep you safe. That's intelligent. The second type is irrational fear.
Fear of making mistakes, fear of being judged, fear of sounding unprofessional, fear of being
laughed at. Your brain reacts to these social fears the same way it reacts to physical danger.
And when fear activates, neuroscience shows us that we respond in three different ways.
Fight, flight, or freeze. So what does this mean when you want to speak English in real life?
Fighting is when you become defensive. You try to prove yourself in any way possible.
Flight is when you run away so you avoid speaking opportunities. And freeze is when your mind goes
blank and for example you can't express yourself in meetings. But here's the most important part.
The problem isn't fear itself. The problem is not knowing where your fears are coming from.
And identifying the real issue is more than 50% of the solution. Because if you don't find the
right problem, then you're wasting your time trying to find a solution that doesn't work.
So what do I mean by that? For example, if you believe you're not confident speaking because
you don't know enough words or phrasal verbs, you'll keep memorizing more words and phrasal
verbs. But what if words aren't the issue for you? What if your real issue is stress and not
managing it well? Because when you feel pressure, stress hormones reduce access to working memory.
In simple words, the more nervous you are, the harder it is to access words you already know.
So then your problem isn't a knowledge problem but a nervous system problem. Or maybe your issue is
perfectionism. You're not afraid of English. You're afraid of making mistakes. So you overthink
everything. You keep thinking about the perfect way to say something in your head but say nothing
at all in real life. So if that's you, studying more vocabulary and English actually makes it
worse for you. Because now you have more options to overanalyze. As you can see, the solution
depends on the real cause. And that's why on this channel we talk about a personalized,
holistic approach. So in my opinion, choosing the right method that works for you
is more than 70% of the job. Because when you understand the real issue and find the right
solution for that, then you're not wasting your time and you directly go to the root cause of the
problem. If you'd like my help identifying the real issue that stops you from speaking English
confidently in real life and getting a personalized roadmap, I've opened a few coaching spots for this
community. You can check the link in the description. Now once you understand the real issue,
the next step is building the right system to support consistent action-taking. Not random
actions. A system that supports your personality and nervous system. For example, if you're an
introvert, jumping straight into talking to strangers to practice your speaking is too much
pressure for you and your brain will resist it. So you'll procrastinate. You'll avoid your practices.
Instead, you need to start with low pressure speaking alone. Depending on your situation,
maybe you need to first record yourself or summarize articles out loud or practice structured
speaking privately. Then gradually increase the pressure. This is an example of using exposure
therapy, which is the way to overcome any kind of fear. And it's based on neuroscience. Your brain
reduces fear when it experiences something repeatedly without negative consequences.
In simple terms, the more safe repetitions you give your brain, the weaker the fear response
will become. Fears are diluted by facing them through controlled exposure, not through avoidance
or running away from them. Fear of speaking English in real life isn't a sign that you're
incapable. It's a sign that your brain is trying to protect you. But once you understand where that
fear is coming from, whether it's knowledge gaps, stress, perfectionism, personality, you can build
the right system to solve it through consistent action. And when you stop wasting time solving
the wrong problem, confidence becomes much easier. So ask yourself, what is actually causing my fear?
Because once you identify the real issue, you're already halfway to deleting the fear. It's only
then that you can create your action plan based on who you are and your situation. So if you need
more support with that, check the link in the description. Now share your thoughts in the
comment section and let me know about your fears. I love learning more about you. Thank you so much
for watching and see you in the next video.
