Welcome back friends, it's Anders.
Today we are making an original of mine
I call the Tartan Cocktail.
This is a scotch-based drink,
perfect for Robbie Burns Day,
which is right around the corner.
And it is a spirit forward, meaning a stronger cocktail.
If you like a Rusty Nail, if you like a Rob Roy,
Manhattan, this is a drink for you.
You're gonna love this one.
I'll show you how to make it, and we'll drink it.
Also, get your hat.
Did you get your merch yet?
We still have a couple left.

for more sips, tips, and recipes,
and let's go make the Tartan Cocktail.
To the bar.
Today's video is not sponsored,
but I have an exciting shout out I wanna make
for my friend, Steve the Bartender.
For years, he's been making YouTube videos.
He also has his own app, he also has his own distillery,
and now he also has his own cocktail book
called Steve the Bartender's Cocktail Guide.
Man, I struggle to come out with one video a week,
and he's writing books.
He was kind enough to send me this book, by the way.
Thank you, Steve.
As soon as we open it up, we're greeted
with Steve's beautiful, shining face.
Hello, Steve.
Then, we get into the essentials.
Cocktail timeline, cocktail families.
Each cocktail has its own full-size photo.
What's really cool is if you look at the bottom
of each recipe page, there's a QR code.
That takes you to, you guessed it, one of Steve's videos.
Let's try one, huh?
A Steve Original King's Breakfast.
Calicus, a little gin, lemon juice, a little jam.
Add ice and shake.
Easy drinking.
Strawberry and bergamot, very good combo.
Anyway, cheers to Steve on the new book.
Go buy it if you haven't already.
Go see him on YouTube.
Say hi.
Back to the video.
The tartan cocktail.
All right, this cocktail I came up with
about five or six years ago when I made it
for a regular who was drinking a Brooklyn
and wanted a scotch-based cocktail.
Now, over the years, I've tweaked it
because I thought it could be better,
and I'm really happy with where it's at right now.
That's why I'm sharing it with you.
It's kind of a mashup of a Rusty Nail,
a Rob Roy, and a Black Manhattan.
So, without further ado, the booze.
To make this drink, we are gonna need scotch,
Sweet Vermouth, Drambuie, Amaro, and Angostura Bitters.
The scotch is Edgardour Tenure.
This is a personal favorite of mine.
Single Malt Highland.
Blended will also work, but I do really like it
with the Edgardour Tenure.
The other Scottish element is the Drambuie,
which gives it a little sweetness, a little bit of weight,
and that's countered with Amaro.
All of these bottles are available
in my collection at Curiata.
Now, let's build.
All spirits, so we're gonna stir this one,
so get a mixing glass.
Oh, also, I'm gonna do a little orange oil on top
as a garnish.
Well, not really a garnish.
The orange peel will be the garnish,
but the orange oil will make it really nice
and aromatic on the nose.
Let's start with the scotch.
An ounce and a half of your scotch.
Now we can add three quarters of an ounce
of the Sweet Vermouth, quarter of an ounce of the Drambuie,
and another quarter of an ounce of the Amaro.
Now, the bitters.
I've got the smaller Dasher bottle,
so I'm gonna do two dashes.
If you have this larger bottle, just one dash will do.
I hope you got your glass chilling.
It's gonna be served up.
Add ice and stir.
About 30 seconds or so.
That looks good.
Grab your chilled glass
and strain the cocktail right into the glass.
Now that orange, we can zest the oils right across the top.
Get the sides.
I'm gonna clean up the edges
because this will also be the garnish.
There we have the tartan cocktail.
Cheers.
Ooh.
Definitely get the honey sweetness and herbal bitterness.
It's a lot like a Rob Roy,
but it does have those sweeter notes of the Rusty Nail.
Probably closer to the Rob Roy, though.
It's not overly sweet.
Oz, would you like to try this?
All right.
Cheers.
That's really good.
That is excellent.
It's pretty tasty, isn't it?
Yeah, I have to give it to you.
There's a lot going on there.
It's really good.
So there you have it.
Happy Robbie Burns Day, everybody.
Read some poetry.
Yeah, if you need a strong one,
make the tartan cocktail, read some poetry,
have a merry evening.
Get some merch.
Did you buy your merch yet?
I'm not wearing any at the moment,
but Anders is.
Check out Steve's book.
Oh yeah.
Say hi to Steve the bartender for us.
We will see you next time.
Goodbye.
