Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Easy Italian Today we'
re talking about Italian women—whether they're different from women abroad
What is it like to be a woman in Italy today
Let's go
How would you describe Italian women
It's a somewhat complex question one that doesn't lend itself to a straightforward answer
If we're talking about the last decade or even
the past twenty years I'd say we're at the forefront compared to that time let's say
In my opinion I don't know how you overseas see the Italian
woman but personally I can't identify a clear pattern
Italian women are especially seen as passionate
about things and as living intense emotions
I don't think they're all that different from women everywhere but then again maybe they are the way they do things
The place where feelings are expressed is stronger in Italy than in other parts of the world
I think they're much freer now than they used to be much more enterprising
Self-sufficient which is actually a
trait I really like Passionate
And I see her a bit too—maybe a little more
perfectionistic in general compared to perhaps other women
I always find them very poised neat and
stylish Maybe living in Milan gave me that impression
I have to say it's a contradictory situation right
It depends a lot—it's very subjective—but generally speaking yes I'd say it's quite passionate
Maybe it's the most appropriate term well then In Italy we still
assign them to regions so it's not straightforward not simple at all
Exactly we're more from central-southern Italy so we're a bit more attached you know
That is Italian history has always been tied to women's sacrifices to the fact that women have always borne the burden
mothers or those who took on similar roles often carried on family responsibilities frequently at the expense of their own careers
And this aspect even if it is no longer true today still
influences how a woman lives herself and relates to others
Yes yes so I'd say the Italian woman is beautiful passionate emancipated and a mother
Yes
Smart and eager for redemption
Are there still things that are difficult for Italian women today
Yes I think it's unlikely they'll take on a significant role in the workforce in the sense tha
which often leads to favoring men even merely in terms of advancing their careers
because women are somewhat perceived as having a disability simply by virtue of being women
If they have a child they must take maternity leave or at the very least it's usually the mother who does
He runs off if the child isn't feeling well or stays home
And yes I think there still is some prejudice
Have there been any changes in Italy in recent years
Even considering the role of women
Yes in my opinion especially in couple roles there's much greater equality meaning perhaps compared to
o the stereotype I don't know
the current Italian image of a general for instance in the Mediterranean
Yes indeed it's more about aligning roles roughly along those lines
More often than not that's my impression today Unlike in
the past women are undoubtedly more progressive undoubtedly
moreover as I was saying earlier emancipated and now I might just make the comparison being
Sicilian with the Sicilian women of old who were always at home anyway
Helping the family cooking keeping the house in order and there was also a lot of jealousy and possessiveness
From the man's perspective toward the woman whereas now it certainly isn't like that anymore
In my opinion a woman from southern Italy is much more sunny engaging and friendly
Compared perhaps to someone from the north but this is something that's broadly true across the board
What is it like to be a woman in Italy today
It's difficult for instance when it comes to employment given the challenges of entering the workforce
working the woman still faces difficulties today for example it comes to mind that she continues to struggle in her professional life
eeping in mind that women are often asked in job interviews whether they have children whether
They want to have a family because work is scarce so the woman often faces hardship
One must consider work not only in light of personal choices
Therefore as we've seen it's very difficult to define the Italian woman—there are many
There are also differences at the regional level but one thing is certain—the role of women has changed
Significant changes have occurred in Italy over the past few years and are very likely to continue
