Just checked into Medina by Fraser Hong Kong.
Picked up my egg tarts.
My flight got cancelled.
I really love morning flights.
Look how beautiful the sky is.
And the airport is empty and clean and quiet.
So excited to be going to Hong Kong again.
Got my snacks ready for the flight.
Ashley!
So I got off the plane.
We landed in very early.
Got my luggage very quickly.
Everything was so efficient.
And then I tried to turn on my eSIM.
Honestly at this point I think there's something wrong with my phone.
I don't think it's the eSIM company's issue or anything.
But I've had this constant issue for the past like 3-4 months.
Where I can't activate any of my eSIM.
So then I just went to the counter.
The girl that was working at the trip counter helped me.
And she was so nice.
Like immediately she was like,
Wow you're so pretty.
I always have such a good time when I come to Hong Kong.
Hong Kong people are so nice.
It's a very good start.
So I don't remember Hong Kong airport looking this pretty.
And also I noticed over there.
Maybe we'll go down that end.
One of my favourite cafes in Hong Kong, Fine Print,
actually have a stall in the airport now.
So maybe we can go get a coffee since we're early.
Oh the shops won't open either?
Shopping mall closed.
Restaurant closed.
Everything closed.
What can I do if it's a typhoon?
Nothing?
Stay in hotel.
Don't get married?
Why why why why?
How Korean?
Like development?
Who?
Your son?
Good boy?
So this trip, I'm staying in Tsum Sha Tsui.
It's literally the best area.
I remember last time I came to Hong Kong,
I really wanted to stay around this area
because there was so much going on.
So I'm very excited.
I know there's a bakehouse around the corner as well.
So before I can actually check in because I'm way early,
I think I'll go and explore the area around
and go and get some Portuguese egg tarts.
Caramel bola bao, one.
And hanjang coconut donut, one.
Yes, can I order as well?
Okay, okay.
Yes, can I do apple pay?
Thank you.
So they were sold out of the egg tarts until 2 p.m.
That's the earliest I could pick it up.
So I got two of their other pastries
and then I'm gonna come back at two
to pick up my egg tarts that I pre-ordered.
The first one is the salted egg custard.
What is it?
Salted caramel bola bao.
I really loved last time.
And then the other one is a summer special
which is the pandan coconut donut.
Which one should we try first?
Wow, looks so good.
Someone just took a photo of me sitting here eating.
I'm gonna eat around the edges
so that the middle bite is gonna be bomb.
Okay, you guys are not ready for this bite.
This is the next one that I got.
This is the one that I got last time
and I fell in love with.
So I had to get it again.
This one is seriously my favorite.
Okay, checking in now.
I'm in room 1701 today.
Starting from the entrance here,
we have this little kitchen set up on both sides.
It comes with a sink.
It even has a range hood.
Essentials, coffee, there's even a toaster,
kettle, microwave.
Let's see what's in the drawers.
Wow, you could literally stay here
for longer than my trip, definitely.
And it's got a very spacious mini fridge
and it's got more cutlery up there.
Honestly, you could stay here for weeks and weeks.
It even comes with a little stove.
To the rest of the room.
Look how spacious this is.
I'm pretty sure guys,
I'm pretty sure this is bigger than my apartment in Tokyo.
But we've got our desk, TV,
nice spacious and very comfortable looking bed,
little living area,
and then the bathroom and shower and toilet.
Seriously, this is bigger than my apartment.
Should I move in?
I'm actually very happy.
Inside the wardrobe,
we've got a full length mirror,
slippers and iron hair dryer.
Oh, we've even got a scale.
I really don't want to weigh myself after this trip though.
I also just noticed this.
Dear Chen Phoebe,
a very warm welcome to Medina by Freezer Hong Kong.
We wish you an enjoyable stay.
Ah, so sweet.
Just checked into Medina by Freezer Hong Kong,
located in Tsim Sha Tsui,
which is only three minutes from the nearest station.
So convenient.
It means I can get around so easily.
And also there's so much going on here.
Actually, the last trip I stayed,
I wish I had stayed around this area
because it's like in the middle of everything.
Not only that, but the room is so spacious.
It's actually a serviced apartment,
which means it is fully equipped with the kitchen.
It's perfect for long stays,
but also shorter term stays like me.
And there's also a nice cafe on level three of this building.
So I'm also going to save that for the last day
because I probably won't want to leave that day
if it's really that bad.
Also, the taxi driver told me
that everything's going to be closed anyway.
So I'll save the cafe for that day.
Since I checked in early,
I really want to freshen up and get ready
because I want to make the most out of the nice weather today
before it starts raining tomorrow
and then Wednesday is going to be typhoon,
which means I should make the most out of my time now while I can.
And then I can stay in all day on Wednesday
and just enjoy my time inside the apartment.
Yay, picked up my egg tarts.
I want to go out,
but it would be illegal
if I didn't have at least a couple right now.
And I got a fresh batch.
It was minimum six.
I mean, I can eat over the next three days.
So good.
I just realized there was no line for Bakehouse.
Maybe you guys should go for the one here
rather than the one in Central
because that one is so busy.
I'll have one more.
This area is lovely
because it's in the epicenter of all the luxury brands,
but it's also got a lot of the authentic Hong Kong
typical restaurants and cafes around here.
So it really has the best of both worlds.
Okay, guys, just for reference,
I came back to Central
and there's a bit of a line for Bakehouse here.
So I'd recommend going to one of the other locations if you can.
Yeah, the grey is nice.
Even if you're wearing the jeans,
it's really suitable for you.
For grey?
Yes, with the grey one.
Let's see.
I'm thinking between grey and the navy blue.
Oh, just try it.
Yeah.
The navy is nice too.
Yeah, really?
Yeah.
Especially if you're wearing the white pants.
With the white?
Yeah.
Oh, I like the navy.
Yeah, so the navy is cool.
Yeah.
Because you're wearing the white pants,
right now you've got the second one.
That's right.
Yeah, so navy I think is nice too
if you're wearing the white pants.
Right?
I like the navy more.
Yeah.
It's really nice material.
I think maybe not yellow.
White is nice.
Yeah, white is nice too.
So I ended up buying three pieces.
And as I was trying on the clothes,
I was so focused on which colour I should get.
And then as I came downstairs to pay,
I was like,
does Chloe Chen, the designer, come here often?
Or is she based in Shanghai or Taiwan?
They said she only comes in twice a month,
but she came in whilst you were trying on the clothes.
I was like, what?
I wanted to meet her.
I wanted to talk to her.
They said she walked past you.
How does this happen to me?
I really wanted to talk to her so badly.
Anyways.
Came past this restaurant that's Michelin.
All those years.
But it's Skemen.
And I couldn't get that in Japan.
So...
Oh my god, soba.
Oh wait, this is...
I have something like this near my place.
I skipped the soba as well.
This one is a gelato shop.
I'll come back after I have dinner.
That's why it's like...
Starch inside.
That's why when you mix it well,
they will get more sticky than before.
After you taste the one,
by getting sticky,
and then you add inside.
I see.
See, peppery, creamy sauce.
And then I can add some of the soup to make it
a little bit of a different consistency.
So I ended up going back to snack baby gelato and drinks.
Which was really unique.
They had some cool flavors
and a lot of animal-free, lactose-free options.
And it was featured on the Michelin guide.
I'm doing a voiceover for this
because the music was pumping so loudly.
It was a bit overwhelming.
But the gelato itself was really delicious
and I do recommend.
These blockout curtains.
Oh my god.
I haven't slept in in a long time.
Because at my place in Tokyo,
I don't have blockout curtains.
So I naturally wake up when the sun is up.
Which is usually around 5 a.m.
But today, I slept until 7.
Which is actually like 8 o'clock in Tokyo time.
So I was a bit surprised and I'm a bit worried.
Because...
Okay, we have two things.
One is good news.
One's bad news.
The good news,
you don't need an octopus card anymore.
You can just tap on with your credit card or Apple Pay.
So that's super convenient.
The bad news is that the typhoon's gonna kick in from tonight.
And because of that,
my flight tomorrow night got cancelled.
And the earliest I could rebook was for Friday night.
Maybe that's good news because then I can stay here longer.
But then also I can't do anything
because everything's gonna be closed.
So that's why I was like,
oh ----, I should like get ready.
So I can go out and enjoy the day
before the rain kicks in this afternoon.
I can already see like some dark clouds.
I asked you guys for some suggestions
on what I should do in Hong Kong.
There were a lot of repeat comments
on these two very like stylish cafes.
So I'm on my way there now.
So good.
Oh, flat white, please.
This place is like architectural style cafe.
Very modern style.
I'll start my day off with a flat white.
I'm thinking later I should stop by somewhere
and get maybe sneakers
because there's actually an Anytime Fitness
across the road from my accommodation.
Tomorrow or the next day,
I can hit the gym
because there's not really anything else to do.
So we do daily black and white coffees.
We've got coffees like matcha latte or lemonade.
What's a blackaccino?
So that's a foamed up ice black coffee.
There's no milk, but we have a layer of foam.
So the house will be more nutty, more chocolatey.
I think I'll go with this one, please.
Came to this little rustic industrial style coffee shop.
I ordered a blackaccino,
which is like a foamed up ice black, I think.
Came to this snack stand and I got chanpon.
I literally demolished that so quickly.
One of my favorite snacks growing up
was getting those rice rolls
and then I would just put soy sauce on it
and eat it on its own,
but it definitely does taste better with all those sauces.
So that's why I ate it so quickly.
So comforting and nostalgic for me.
Found this cute boutique.
I want to shop.
Everything is so cute,
but because I didn't expect to stay in Hong Kong
so many days,
I brought the smallest luggage.
Oh, I want to shop so bad.
I just don't think I have space in my luggage
unless I hand carry it onto the flight.
This one is oversized,
but I like the material.
It's very soft.
Oh, a bag.
It's a nice touch.
Okay.
This is the black crop
and at the back,
it says it has the logo,
but it's in blue,
so you can't really see it.
Maybe the white one was cuter.
I quite like this khaki t-shirt.
The quality is quite nice.
I think I might get this one.
It's not too heavy,
so I can probably squeeze it into my luggage.
The wind is really starting to pick up.
I think the typhoon's kicking in,
so I'm going to try and rush back to my accommodation,
but before I do,
some really good news.
Medina by Fraser have so kindly extended my stay
until I'm able to fly out,
so I'm just so grateful that they're able to do this for me
because I was a little bit worried that I'd be stranded.
So as my token of appreciation,
I think I'm going to buy the staff some dessert,
some sweets.
So let's see what's around here.
Now I'm going to head into the grocery
and just stock up on some essentials
in case I'm locked in for the next couple of days.
Got a bunch of essentials,
so I will not be leaving this apartment for the next day
or a day and a half.
Literally like no one on the road,
so weird.
I know I said that I was going to stay in for the next day and a half,
but honestly,
I got way too bored.
By midday,
I had already eaten all my food,
watched through an entire Netflix series,
had a nap,
and then I didn't know what to do.
So since there's no food,
I need to venture out and get something to eat.
I'm craving roast goose.
Like it's not really something that I crave ever,
but I think because I'm so bored
and I want to eat some local Hong Kong cuisine,
I think we should go out.
And also it's calmed down a lot since this morning.
It was so loud,
like I could not sleep,
hence why I had a nap.
I'm usually not a nap person,
but because my sleep was so broken,
I had to sleep it off this morning,
and maybe because I was in such a food coma from eating all my food.
But anyways,
it's about dinner time.
Let's go find something to eat and dessert after.
The results of the typhoon earlier this morning.
Looks like some places are starting to open up.
Does that mean if I want rice or noodles or soup?
Please do have Wi-Fi.
Oh, Wi-Fi.
Oh, thank you.
Hey, hey, hey.
Can I get the roast goose?
But can I change to rice noodle?
Oh, can I?
Sorry.
This one, can I change to rice noodle or only rice?
Yes, can choose.
Can choose?
The noodles, do you want the thin one or thick one?
Thick one.
Thick, okay.
Okay, thank you.
Finally got my hearty meal.
This is yuzu tea.
This one.
Okay, first bite of this roast goose.
They also gave me this sauce.
Looks like just sweet chili sauce.
The skin is super fatty and crispy.
I love it with the sweet chili sauce.
The noodles and soup itself actually doesn't have like a strong flavor.
It tastes quite clean, which is probably what I needed
because the goose itself is so rich and fatty.
But I just wanted like something soupy for this rainy, windy weather.
It was good.
Let's go get desserts.
If you guys didn't know, it was a level 10 typhoon.
And it's just so crazy seeing all the damage from the trees.
I mean, I heard it this morning.
But seeing it out in the flesh, wow.
I wanted to go to this egg waffle place.
But as expected, it's closed tonight.
I'm gonna find something else to have.
Damn it, this kakigori place is also closed as expected.
Kind of running out of options here.
Let's move on to the next.
Fingers crossed, I will get my dessert tonight.
We'll think of this as a little adventure.
I remember this, I came here on my last trip.
Where are the egg waffles though?
I'll eat my egg waffle, freshly toasted.
I actually, is it really morning?
It's still kind of early.
But I woke up so hungry.
So I ate some dark chocolate.
And then I had some of the fruit that the hotel gave me.
I will go out for brunch today.
I think the weather is looking much more promising.
It's still kind of raining lightly.
But not heavy enough for me to want to carry an umbrella all day.
So if I need to, I'll buy a hat or something to keep my face and hair dry.
And today I will be meeting up with a few Hong Kong locals.
Which will be fun.
And yeah, I'm just excited to be able to explore all day today.
Without having to worry about the weather.
Yay!
Let's check out the cafe and breakfast.
They have a bunch of typical western style breakfast.
And also sesame oil noodles.
No rain, everything's reopening.
Everything smells so good.
I'm in a very good mood.
So I came to Wan Chai.
And there's this little like shopping district.
That has a very European vibe to it.
Going to check out this cafe slash patisserie slash restaurant.
Called The Baker and the Bottleman.
Hi!
Nice to meet you.
Can't believe I really made it.
Actually just a few days ago.
I was just playing your video.
My vlog?
Yes, your vlog.
Like every morning.
Like morning session.
And yet I found out you come here.
And I was like, whoa!
Can I just reply the message?
And she's my role model.
And so that's why I really want to make my vlog like you do.
So we got a couple of pastries to start with.
This one is black sesame mochi croissants.
It looks so interesting.
I love everything black sesame.
That's why after this I was thinking to go try some black sesame ice cream from Denki.
And also Messina.
Must taste like the starch.
Like the starch pastry.
Yeah.
And then we also got a pistachio cookie.
Bon appétit.
Oh my gosh.
Did you have something inside?
It's mochi.
Whoa.
It's mochi.
Mochi and black sesame.
Wow, that looks so darn good.
Yay!
Did you have something inside?
Like little melted chocolate bits.
It's not that sweet.
Yeah.
Like the chocolate itself is quite bitter.
Like dark chocolate.
All right.
I'm gonna try this.
Let's go.
Oh my god.
I love black sesame.
Oh my god.
I can't imagine you literally doing that face in front of me.
Because every time I see you, you're in the screen.
And doing that face.
It's oolong tea.
Some special Hong Kong flavors.
Because I love Denki.
I always get it.
But there are some flavors that you can't get in Japan or in Australia.
The black sesame one is screaming to me.
Because it's a collaboration with Kaikai Dessert.
Which one do you want to try?
Oh, I think I've decided.
I can see black sesame one in a cone.
Do you want a drink or something?
Coffee?
No, I'm good.
It's so pretty.
It's dripping off.
Is it?
Look like.
Yeah.
Oh.
Delicious.
Okay, all three flavors in one.
Yeah.
Quick little cookie break before we head back out.
Just change into something more comfortable.
There's actually a Hong Kong content creator that I've been following for a while.
And she recently opened a cafe.
Which I was planning to visit either today or tomorrow.
But then I went on their Instagram.
And they're actually hosting their grand opening tonight.
With some wine and some pastries and nibbles.
So I'm going to check it out with a friend.
And then since it's my last night here in Hong Kong.
Maybe I will go bar hopping or check out some of the other venues.
We'll see where the night takes us.
Let's go.
We got rosé and sparkling.
Or some beer.
Can you please play I'm not used to this.
You're coming at the right time.
She's coming at the right time.
G'day.
Good morning.
Fifth and final day.
I was walking around this morning.
I was wondering why am I walking so slow and sluggish.
And then I realized it's the sugar and caffeine deprivation.
So I'm on my way to get exactly that.
I'm actually on my way to the same cafe slash wine bar as last night, Venna.
And this time I'm going to get a coffee and one of their cookies.
Which I didn't get to try last night.
I saw them handing it out but then it was a little too far out of reach.
So I'll go pick one up now.
I feel so weak that walking these steps already feels like the biggest mission ever.
At least the skies are blue and the sun is out.
So that's giving me a bit more energy.
Make sure that my final brunch for you is a traditional yum cha.
So I'm joined with a Hong Kong local.
And we're going to enjoy this together.
Because it's too hard to eat.
On your own.
Because everything comes in like threes or fours.
So we'll share it together.
When I was in Sydney, I used to have it all the time.
But here, I mean in Tokyo, never.
It's actually Lily's birthday this week.
So I was thinking of getting her a gift from Hong Kong.
And there's this perfume and vegan candle shop.
So I think that'll be a nice gift for her.
I'm gonna check it out.
Everything in here smells so good.
Ah there's candles too.
I'm all packed and ready to check out.
I think even though it was unfortunate that there was the typhoon.
I kind of think it was a blessing in disguise.
Because then I could stay a little longer.
Explore some more.
Eat some good food.
Meet some good people.
And yeah I had a really good time.
And I want to come back.
Thank you again to Modena by Fraser.
For being so accommodating throughout this whole experience.
I really recommend staying here.
Because it's in the heart of TST.
And so easy to commute anywhere.
So much good food around.
So I will drop all the details in the description below.
And hopefully I get the chance to come back to Hong Kong again.
