If Nothing Belongs to You, Why Hold On? — Buddhist Wisdom
Why does it hurt so much when we lose something — a relationship, a job, an identity we spent years building? Maybe it is because we were never just losing the thing itself. We were losing the part of "me" we had attached to it. The Buddha looked at this very closely. He pointed out three layers of clinging that most of us don't even know we're caught in — and he showed that letting go doesn't mean becoming cold or caring less. It means learning to stop piling suffering on top of pain, and discovering that we can love more fully when we are no longer gripping out of fear.
