Why Doesn’t Novak Djokovic Ever Look Rushed?

There is a simple reason why the pros rarely look rushed no matter how fast and deep the opponent
hits the ball and it's because pros do not waste any time that is given to them. They use all
available time wisely. Here's Djokovic hitting with TFO and let's look at this forehand right
here. You'll notice that Djokovic is split stepping and you always want to land your split
step so that it's just after the opponent contacts the ball. An easy way to do that is try to be
in the air as the opponent is hitting. So try being in the air as the opponent hits. You'll
land just after they hit. That's the proper timing of the split but notice as soon as Djokovic split
steps he immediately begins the backswing. There is no delay whatsoever. Watch. It's the split step
which triggers the backswing or the unit turn right on the forehand. He's taking the racket
back with both hands producing a great unit turn. When you coil you can uncoil but I have so many
of you sending me videos every single day of your matches. You want me to analyze your matches,
why you're losing, how to use better tactics and core positioning, shot selection. You want me to
analyze your serve so you get a faster serve, a more consistent backhand for him. By the way if
you want me to analyze your game send me an email ryan at twominutennis.net and I'll give you the
pricing, I'll give you the turnaround time, give you the details but you cannot delay the backswing
and that's what I see all the time. You're split stepping but then you wait and you wait for the
ball to get you and then you take the racket back. That's not what you see the pros do. If you want
to be a high level player, if you want to be able to stand farther up into the court and not feel
like you have to stand so far back to be able to handle your hardest hitting opponents, the moment
you split step begin the backswing you will feel early, you'll feel on time, you won't have to rush
and you'll definitely be able to handle your hardest hitting opponents. Now if you're looking
for a drill to work on this, set your ball machine up on the service line, you stand on the service
line or just have someone feed you you know slower balls, get rid of the bounce and hit full swing
out of the air. The reason this works is because since there's no bounce you can't use it as a
crutch because a lot of people they use the bounce as the timing mechanism. The moment you see the
ball begin your backswing and watch how your timing improves. So again if you want me to analyze your
technique, your strategy, your footwork, send me an email ryan at twominutennis.net and I'll give
you the details. The moment you split step, be in the air as they hit but then the moment you split
step that begins the backswing. If you do there's no doubt you're going to gain confidence, win more
matches and play much better tennis. This is Ryan Reidy from twominutennis.net. You got this!
