Elon Musk’s net worth has surged past $800 billion, setting yet another record and widening the gap between him and the next richest to more than $500 billion.
Today on Forbes, the top 10 richest people in the world, March 2026.
After a while January, the ranks of the world's top 10 richest were mostly unchanged last month.
Only two people swapped places. Warren Buffett moved up to number 9,
while Zara's co-founder Amancio Ortega slipped to number 10.
Both were among just four of the 10 richest who added to their fortunes in February.
The biggest gainer, by far, was Elon Musk, who added $64 billion to his fortune over the past
month, and more than $100 billion since the start of the year. Musk again set yet another new wealth
record. In October, he became the first person ever worth $500 billion. In December, he crossed
both the $600 billion and $700 billion marks. In February, his net worth passed $800 billion
for the first time ever. He was worth an estimated $839 billion as of 12am eastern on March 1st.
Musk widened his more than half a trillion dollar lead over the runner-up, Google co-founder Larry
Page, who lost $20 billion and is now worth an estimated $257 billion.
Our top 10 richest people in the world list is as of March 1st, 2026 at 12am eastern time.
As a group, they're worth $2.6 trillion combined, roughly the same as last month,
and Musk accounts for almost a third of that. As a reminder, stock prices fluctuate routinely,
so the net worths on our list may change on a daily basis. Forbes tracks the daily changes
on our real-time list of billionaires. Forbes has been keeping track of the world's billionaires
since 1987. In April 2025, we found 3,028 of them for our annual list.
Many are now counting down the weeks, or days, until Elon Musk becomes the first person on the
planet ever to be worth $1 trillion. While markets are unpredictable, one big event that will impact
his fortune is the expected IPO of SpaceX later this year. Larry Page, the world's second richest
person for the fourth straight month, was one of five American tech tycoons in the top 10
to lose $20 billion or more in February, as shares of Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Oracle
all slipped. Jeff Bezos, at number four on our list, was the month's biggest loser,
as shares of Amazon slid 12%, lowering his net worth by $26 billion to an estimated $224 billion.
Right ahead of Bezos on our list is number three Sergey Brin,
the co-founder of Google, who, along with Page, also saw his net worth fall,
but only by $18 billion to an estimated $237 billion.
At number five is the co-founder and CEO of Meta, which is the parent of Facebook and Instagram,
Mark Zuckerberg, whose net worth is down $23 billion since last month.
His fortune stands at $222 billion.
At number six is Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison. His fortune fell by $21 billion
since last month to an estimated $191 billion. In August, Larry Ellison teamed up with his son
David to help pull off the merger of Paramount and David's Skydance Media. Now the father-son
team are making a much bigger gamble, as Warner Bros. Discovery recently accepted Paramount's
$111 billion offer to buy the media giant. If regulators clear the deal,
one of the largest mergers in history will hand the Ellison's unprecedented sway
over American media. CBS and CNN under one roof, HBO Max and Paramount Plus fused,
and Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures sharing a parent.
That's on top of the tech and real estate empire the elder Ellison already controls.
At number seven is the CEO and chairman of luxury goods group LVMH, Frenchman Bernard Arnault.
He saw his fortune rise $2 billion since last month to $171 billion.
At number eight is the co-founder and CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, whose fortune is down
$12 billion since last month to $154 billion. And as mentioned earlier, the only two to swap
places on our list this month are now number nine Warren Buffett, who added $7 billion to
his fortune, landing him at a net worth of $149 billion. And now number 10, Zara's co-founder
Amancio Ortega, who added $3 billion since last month, giving the Spaniard a fortune of $148
billion. All of the top 10 richest people as of March 1st are men. Each of them is worth $148
billion or more, up from $142 billion last month. For full coverage and to see the whole list,
