Demi Lovato's bond with Selena Gomez is anything but ordinary. More than two decades after the "Cool for the Summer" singer became friends with her 'Princess Protection Program' costar, she shared insight into coming up in Hollywood together. "What was beautiful is, Selena and I had a friendship prior to Disney Channel because we were actually on 'Barney' together," Demi explained on the March 3 episode of the 'Baby, This is Keke Palmer' podcast. "So, I felt this safety when I came into the Disney Channel, having a built-in friendship there, already." The 33-year-old—who starred on the children's TV show with Selena for two seasons from 2002 to 2004—emphasized, "I'm so grateful for that, will always be grateful for the friendship that I have and continue to have with her." Plus, Keke and Demi also shared insight into their past relationships with older men as teenagers, with the 'True Jackson, VP' star admitting she now sees she was “being exploited.”

What was beautiful is Selena and I had a friendship

there already.
Demi adds, I'm so grateful for that,

and how their takes on those relationships
has shifted over time.
With Kiki declaring, I'm 15, why is my boyfriend 20?
To which Demi follows up with, why was my boyfriend 30?
The singer then explains,
but then you look back in hindsight,
when I turned 30 and I was like, that's not okay.
Kiki adds, it's almost a mental break that can happen
because you realize you were taken advantage of.
I was being exploited.
That was very difficult for me.
