I'm not pretty.
No.
Are we going to school?
No.
I'm teaching you.
No.
Smoothie bowls.
Banana.
I don't like blue.
I like that idea.
Oakley's in a don't put me down mode today.
Oakley, you're getting too heavy.
Okay, are your kids also obsessed with frozen fruit?
This is actually a recipe from the toddler cookbook.
I'm just adding a couple of extra things to it.
Kind of like acai bowls.
But with no acai.
Too much. Too much.
My thoughts exactly.
Who doesn't love peanut butter?
Got everything in the blender.
Let's blend it up.
Thank you.
Opening that banana for mommy.
Hang on.
Mommy's got to put toppings on.
Okay, and I got some granola I made.
Just put that on top.
There you go, Oakley.
He likes toppings.
Sage does not.
Granola.
You like it just without anything on it, right?
I like it with chocolate chips and sprinkles.
Yes, but what did mommy say?
No.
I said not for breakfast.
This is what Oakley ate.
He did ask for refills of banana and granola.
Just packed up Sage's lunch.
We have camomile wraps with turkey and cheddar.
A little mayonnaise and mustard.
Olives, cucumber, ranch sauce, raspberries,
little cheddar bunnies, apples, cucumbers.
Another half.
They do like two small lunches.
And then I just have some extra snacks
that I'm going to put up here.
That's what's going in here, in case you're wondering.
I also add in a little card, which I'm going to get.
It's that kind of day.
Okay, mommy's turn for breakfast.
Thank you.
Want to hit it here?
Good job, Oakley.
We're saving that egg.
Good thing we're doing scrambled eggs today.
More?
I think that's it for right now.
Mommy already dropped an egg.
Oh my goodness.
Thank you.
Want to put that back up?
Can I take this?
Careful, it's glass.
I'm going to eat this,
and then we're going to go for a walk in some sunshine.
It's kind of an overcast day,
so the sun's poking out.
I know if I don't do it now,
I'm not going to do it later.
It's probably going to rain.
If you find it hard to eat three eggs a day for protein,
scrambled is an easier way,
because I find it just kind of shrinks up,
but you still get the same amount of protein.
I've been trying not to have toast every morning.
If I do, it's either sprouted or sourdough,
but honestly, the avocado and the raspberries,
lots of fiber, and it's delicious,
and if I'm hungry, I'll just have a snack later.
How not to get sick as a mom,
because honestly, being sick as a parent
is the worst feeling ever.
Water, herbal coffee.
Walk?
No?
Give Mommy a kiss?
No.
Do you love Mommy?
No.
Mommy loves you.
Yeah?
Yeah, I do.
Okay, can I have a kiss?
No.
Hug?
No.
High five?
No.
Handshake?
No.
Potato fries?
No.
Potato.
Potato fries?
Hug.
He knows to give a hug when he hurts.
I'm packing a little morning snack for Oakley
for the walk.
I have these granola bars I made.
I'm gonna put them in there.
An apple.
He's been really into big apples, not cut.
A water, and I like these little grab cups
because it just makes it easy.
I can even strap it on the stroller
so it doesn't fall,
and he can just reach in there and grab it.
Apple.
Apple?
There you go, apple.
Here you go.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
There you go.
Thank you.
Oakley's having his little snack in his stroller.
It's actually a lot colder than I thought.
It's a little windy.
Yesterday I was wearing flip-flops.
Today, puffer vest.
All right, it's Oakley's lunchtime,
so I'm actually just gonna warm up some leftovers.
He's been in a picky phase.
I say this, and then people think I'm lying
because he's eating stuff, and I'm like,
no, it's because I'm trying all the strategies
to get him to actually eat his food,
and it's totally normal.
Like, you didn't do something wrong
if you have a picky toddler.
It's like a normal instinct that happens.
I usually find it's like when they turn one,
and it's really just about navigating it
so that you're still introducing foods
and not giving up because they've said no
to something twice.
It's so normal.
This happened with my first,
and we're in it again,
and honestly, I can already see my hard work working
because he's doing so much better.
Not every mealtime is a good mealtime,
but hopefully this one will be.
He ate this the other day for lunch.
I did some air fryer salmon,
and we did these little hand rolls with toasted seaweed.
He ate like eight of these chunks of salmon
and just kept wanting me to make him them
and feed them to him.
Like, he was in sushi heaven,
so I'm gonna warm that up.
I'm also gonna do a side of avocado,
a little mango.
We'll see what he eats.
And normally, he says no to the broccoli.
What I did is I actually crumbled up the broccoli
into the rice,
and he didn't complain about it,
so I'm gonna do that again.
He's hard on his veggies.
He loves his fruit,
but the veggies, it's a struggle, guys.
And then I gotta figure out what I'm having
because there's not enough for Matt and I.
Shred some of this up,
but honestly, the salmon's so flaky,
he was eating them whole,
so I'm not gonna break up too much.
That's the thing about toddlers.
They don't want tiny little pieces of puree anymore.
They're like, give me the stuff
I can sink my gums and teeth into.
And so a lot of times,
if you're still giving them like mushed up baby food,
they're gonna not be as interested
versus actual food.
So just be mindful of the texture
you're serving it to them.
Switch it up.
Also, give them flavor.
Don't be serving them plain white rice.
If you're not gonna eat it,
why do you expect them to eat it?
So I like to flavor it up a little bit.
I don't wanna do too much salt
and get them used to that,
but this is just coconut aminos.
I'm just gonna add a tiny little bit
to give it some flavor.
And then also,
I made like a healthier version
of a yum yum sauce.
This is a non-spicy one
that I made for the kids.
They both loved it.
Some toasted seaweed.
I'm gonna put some on the side.
Also, my kids love,
I call these just sprinkles,
they're black sesame seeds.
They love shaking it onto their food.
I also find just bringing in
an interactive element,
the fact that they can make
their own little hand rolls,
they can add on their toppings
or their sauce.
Kids love this
and it makes them feel more involved
in like their playing with their food.
This is how I show my love
and honestly,
I feel like he's gonna like it.
We'll see.
Guys, I just brought him up
and he saw the plate
and he's asking for it.
Does that look yummy?
Honestly, I'm so happy
that he's eating it again.
You do it.
Is it good?
Thumbs up?
Yay!
Thumbs up.
More?
Okay.
Oh, we need more.
We need more.
Give me your hands.
Good job.
That makes mommy so happy
that you're enjoying it.
Also, just know
if your toddler is sick
or teething
or their snacks are too close
to their mealtimes,
they're definitely not gonna be hungry
for mealtime.
So, don't be discouraged
if your kid is just like
refusing to eat
at every mealtime
because like that was
like a couple weeks ago
with Oakley
and now he's been doing so good
and just,
you can't give up.
Don't give in
to the chicken nuggets
and fries.
Okay?
It seems easy in the moment.
It will make your life harder
in the long run
because you're never gonna know
what to feed your kid
because they're only gonna eat
like five things.
Little butt is so good.
I know.
Okay.
Little chew, chew, chew.
Chew, chew, chew.
Ah!
All done?
Wow, Oakley.
You smashed that.
Thank you.
Wow, guys.
I don't know.
Usually he throws it on the floor.
I don't know where that came from.
Wow.
That was compliments to the chef.
That's what that was.
Before I put Oakley down
for his nap,
I'm gonna quickly meal prep
some crackers for him.
These are actually
the Super Seed Flax Crackers
from my new e-book,
The Allergy Friendly Cookbook.
It's a cookbook made
for kids with allergies
and even adults
can enjoy it as well
but it's free from the
top nine food allergies
If you are looking for
even school safe snacks
that don't have nuts
and peanut butter
and stuff like that,
this is a great e-book
for you.
It has so many recipes.
It's kind of like a guide
for parents
navigating this world
for the first time
or they've been
in it for a while
and they just need
a refresh,
new recipes to try out.
This is the book for you.
I'm pretty sure
by the time this video
goes live,
it has officially launched
so check it out.
I'm gonna link it down
below for you guys.
Oakley loves the lamb koftas
and he also loves
these crackers too
so both my kids
can enjoy these
as like a little
after school snack.
Right now,
until the end of the month,
you'll also get
a freebie recipe.
My Go Go Chewy
granola bars
will be sent to you
right away too
when you order
the e-book.
I really hope
this helps you
and your family
out on just enjoying
meals that are healthy,
taste delicious
and are not just
full of sugar
and additives
like a lot of the
options at the grocery store.
Just gonna mix it
all together
and then we're gonna
add in our water
to bind it.
Just gonna spread them out.
The thinner you get them,
the crispier they're gonna be.
I'm gonna stick this
into the oven
and go put Mr. Oakley
down for bed.
While my oven is hot,
I'm actually gonna
just start cooking
the bacon.
I like to do my bacon
in the oven.
I feel like it's
the easiest way.
You get the best crispy bacon
and less cleanup.
I'm trying something
I've never made before.
Protein bagels.
Like the cottage cheese bagels.
And we're gonna do BLTs
because that's like
one of my favorite foods.
I think a BLT on a bagel
is so good.
So we're gonna have that.
And I'm not even really
that hungry right now
so I feel like by the time
I make all the components,
they'll be ready.
In case you've been
living under a rock,
they have been going
viral on TikTok
and I finally am going
to try it myself
and see if it's worth the hype.
I'm also filming a TikTok
on the side so if you see me
looking off to the camera,
that's what I'm doing.
But basically I'm gonna do
a gluten-free version
and just do almond flour
and Greek yogurt
and I'm gonna see
if it tastes actually
like a bagel.
Can you even call it a bagel?
Is it just like
almond flour and yogurt
baked?
I don't know.
Cue the montage.
In case anyone is ever
wondering what Matt is doing.
What are you doing right now?
Organizing Sage's crafts.
I'm not cleaning up things.
Crafts, trying to make
some space on there.
Go team.
On TikTok,
we're gonna make it look like
I didn't mess up
but on here,
I'm gonna play around.
I mean, I didn't mess up
but I'm adjusting as I go.
I don't really know
what consistency
I'm going for
but that's the fun part
of recipe testing.
You just make it up
as you go.
Are you?
What?
What are you doing?
I've just broken my
second egg of the day.
Yay!
Oh!
I was like,
where's an egg?
Where's the egg?
I just took it out.
Crunch.
Like, I can't make this up.
Like, I know.
Good thing I asked you
to bring extra eggs today.
You know what?
I'm gonna save it.
Cause I just need it
for the egg wash.
Oh, with my slipper.
Yeah.
Just on the corner.
I didn't go...
There's no way
on my...
It's gonna get cooked.
Look at how cute these are.
Okay, I'm gonna pop them
into the oven.
Oh!
Those look like bagels!
This is crazy
if this actually tastes good
or if it just tastes
like Greek yogurt.
Put these on a cooling rack
to cool while we prep
the rest of the ingredients
cause we're making BLTs
with our own homemade bagels.
I feel like Martha Stewart.
What is this meal prep
behind me?
This is like,
we got crackers,
we got bacon,
we got bagels,
we got BLTs.
This is a good Wednesday.
We have some tomatoes.
Matt hates tomatoes.
But as I tell Sage,
we don't say hate,
we say I'm still learning
to like tomatoes.
I don't think he's ever
gonna like tomatoes.
Now here's the trick
to a good sandwich.
It's seasoning
your toppings
a little bit.
Tomato.
First off,
I love a BLT.
I feel like I need to try
the bagel by itself.
It doesn't have
a weird aftertaste.
It passes as a bagel.
What the heck?
This one's yours.
I brought Matt in
for the taste test.
I'm very proud of my bagels.
Okay, so they're
high protein,
gluten free.
I put no tomato
on yours.
Cute bagel.
It's good.
No weird taste.
They fall apart
a little bit
if you smoosh them
too much.
I think the kids
would eat this for breakfast.
It's good.
For it not being bread,
it's not bad.
Okay, what'd you say?
I was just saying
that they taste good
by themselves.
When they were in the sandwich,
I didn't know if the bagel
tasted good, but
I'm actually
just by itself,
I'm like,
it's good.
I don't need butter or anything.
It's just very soft.
Matt gives it the approval.
It's good.
Okay, we just woke up.
Matt went to go get Sage
from school,
so I'm going to do
a little snack plate.
I'm thinking
flax crackers.
I'm going to cut up
this pomegranate.
I got them on sale
the other day
and some hummus.
Anything else?
That's it.
Did you have a good nap?
No?
You slept over two hours.
High five.
No?
High five.
Where does this attitude
come from?
So little.
From such a little person.
Do you want to help mommy?
Thank you, Oakley.
Okay, mommy's going to
cut first
and then you can help.
Good job helping mommy.
Okay, now we're going to
watch this.
Watch this.
Ready?
Ow.
Thank you.
Okay, but I'm going
to open it up.
It was plastic.
Okay, I'm going to
remove that one.
Oh, that's why
they were on sale.
They're rotten.
I know.
I'm just as sad.
I know.
Okay, let's see
if this one's good.
I know.
Okay.
Okay, this one's better.
Okay, let me show you
my hack.
And they just
rain right out.
How do you get all
your anger out?
We haven't had
pomegranates in a while
because they've been
five dollars each
for the last little bit.
These are good.
They're good?
You're going to be
really happy when you
see the bowl just
seated for him.
Can mommy do that one?
Okay.
Do a little bowl
for Sagey.
I feel like you're
going to eat a lot of this.
I made hummus
the other day,
which if you want to
know how I made this,
follow me on Instagram.
So easy.
I don't think I'm ever
going to buy store-bought
hummus again
because this is better.
That's all I'm saying.
It's so good.
And then we have
our flax crackers.
I feel like a homesteader.
Homemade crackers
and hummus?
Look at mommy go.
Okay, let's check
what you had for lunch.
Did you eat your lunch?
Do you want to have
a cucumber with your hummus?
Wow.
Look at that.
Wait, what's on your card?
My card.
Still learning to
like the cucumber?
Wow.
Good job, Sage.
High five.
So in the meantime,
I'm going to prep
the chicken
for dinner tonight.
You don't want chicken?
You want pizza?
Can't please everyone.
Big day at school?
Yeah, you look a little tired.
Well, the teacher
asked how you felt.
You still feel sad?
Do you want a hug?
Do you like the hummus?
Did you miss mommy?
What's that?
No pepper.
No, no pepper.
What's that?
I'm going to
put the chicken
These are chicken thighs.
Maybe it's because
my hands smell like lemon.
Can I smell it?
Can I smell one?
Yuck!
No, no, no, no, no.
Just those ones
are broken.
Those ones are broken.
Okay.
Do I look tired?
Because I am.
It's been a long day.
A long day in the kitchen.
So I'm just going to
quickly put together
a little Greek salad.
Or a Greek-inspired salad.
Sage has been
getting into salads
so I've been trying to
make one more for dinner.
So I'm kind of
over the kitchen
so I'm going to
make the salad
and then I'm going to
switch with Matt
and he's going to
do the chicken
or put the chicken
in the oven
because it's just marinating
and then he's going
to do his fries.
He has like his
famous fries
that he always does.
I think the pomegranate
is going to be good.
It's still in the
Mediterranean field.
I'm going to just
slice the olives
in half.
Okay.
Dressing.
I guess a little olive oil.
Put this aside
and then go switch
and he'll do the
fries and the chicken.
Okay.
Everybody's crazy
and ready for dinner.
I'm going to add the
dressing to the salad.
Kids' dinners are done.
Sage is actually
already eating
a flatbread pizza.
She's a good eater
so if she requests
something once in a while
I'll, you know,
if we have the stuff
I'll make it for her.
But she's also going to
try a little bit of everything
and then for Oakley
he's like iffy
with chicken
so we just warmed up
some lamb koftas
and I put a little
hummus on it
but I'm still going to
put a little feta
and cucumber on there
to try to encourage him
to try new things.
And you got pizza!
I'm tired.
Ready for dinner
and is it bedtime soon yet?
Yeah.
Originally planned to make
homemade naan
and tzatziki
but
expectations
reality.
Okay.
You don't want it anymore?
Want your popsicle?
Okay.
I'm not going to lie
I'm feeling really tired
but the kids
are both sleeping
so Matt and I
are going to
just chill
and watch The Last of Us.
We're actually re-watching
the first season
because the second season's out.
So good.
If you've not watched that
I can't remember it.
Oh, Severance
so good.
White Lotus
another good one.
We're not big TV watchers
but if a season is
sweet and short
and has a really good storyline
then I'll watch it
here and there
but I don't like long
things that people
get addicted to
because they're like
watching TV
every single night
and then you have
no time for yourself.
I'm going to make
a little sweet treat though
using dates
which I know
doesn't sound exciting
but it's so good.
I have a pan
heating up on the stove.
I'm going to
basically fry some
medjool dates
in olive oil
top it on ice cream
with a little
flaky sea salt
and I know
what you're thinking
olive oil
and ice cream
sounds so weird.
It's so good.
It just works.
Trust me.
Nice and crispy.
I have to give you guys
an up close shot
of this dessert.
Basically
the dates caramelize
and then harden
with the ice cream.
So good
and the sea salt
is just the
perfect balance
for the sweet.
Oh my god.
Whoever thought
about this
is legit genius.
It is so good.
You have to try it.
Don't be fooled
by the dates
thinking it's like
a healthy treat.
You're not going to like it.
It's so good.
