Slow down those speedy O gauge can-motored diesels with a fast, easy, and effective modification.

The answer is a simple wiring modification on twin can motored models - a process that can be completed in 15 minutes or less per locomotive. That process is to change the parallel wiring of the motors to series.

In series wiring, the electrical current runs through ALL components of the circuit and the components divide the total voltage among them. When wired in series, our two can motors on a 9v circuit will receive 4.5 volts each, slowing the motors significantly.

So, there you have it - a fast, easy, and effective way to slow down your modern can-motored diesels to make them run more prototypically and less like Indy cars. A reversible change that takes about 15 minutes per locomotive - including time to remove the shell.

So, by cutting the voltage to our can motors in half, we slow the diesels down to more prototypical speeds. Another advantage is that headlights, sounds, and smoke features are powered by a different section of our control board and they still receive full power - so the headlight can be on full illumination even when the locomotive is moving slowly.
