The acting, the music, but above all, Uma Thurman's great handling of the katana.
Wow! I must admit that I'd never been so fascinated by A Great Revenge. For sure,
this is one of Quentin Tarantino's best movies for me, and Uma Thurman was the right choice to
play the main character. The film received positive reviews and had the highest-grossing
opening weekend for a Tarantino film at that time.
That's right, I can't call this an action movie list without the acting chops of Sylvester Stallone,
who masterfully plays John Rambo. His story of injustice gets you, and Stallone's training
results in rough, authentic hell. The film had mixed reviews, but First Blood was a box office
success, topping the U.S. box office for three weeks in a row.
18. Enter the Dragon
1973
Nothing like the ultimate Han and Lee fight in the Hall of Mirrors.
For me, this is an excellent mix of kung fu, action, and spy. For many, Enter the Dragon is
the best martial arts movie of all time. In this movie, Bruce Lee gave us exciting fight scenes and
terrific acting before his death. This became one of the most profitable movies of all time,
and yes, this is Bruce Lee beating a young Jackie Chan up. That's right, Lee really hurt
Chan's face with a wooden stick. Anyway, stay tuned to the video because I'll talk about this
talented actor again in a while. 17. John Wick
Chapter 3 – Parabellum 2019
I have to admit that the secret to the success of this sequel has a first and last name.
Let me jog your memory. You know who I mean, don't you? Exactly, the great Keanu Reeves and
his masterful performance as the legendary assassin, John Wick. This time, proving to
be completely professional and extremely demanding, this Canadian actor surpassed
his own performance in this installment. After hard and constant preparation that took four
months, Reeves improved his skills in judo and jujitsu, he had to learn how to use firearms,
throw real knives, and even be actually beaten. What a painful part of the job.
16. The Nice Guys 2016
If you're one of those who thought comedy and action couldn't work together,
then you haven't seen Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in action yet. Together,
they're second to none. They kept me entertained with their characters'
interpretations and black humor. However, what was surprising was the actual background of the plot,
which reveals a rather dark, macabre reality that involves the highest spheres of power.
The story got me and solved the whole mystery in 116 minutes. Such a perfect length.
15. Hard Boiled 1992
The ruthless gunfights and firebombing are totally shocking. It's just that I'd never
heard such compliments to an action movie. Critics called it,
a powerful thriller that hits hard in more ways than one. Plus, the Boston Herald called the film,
arguably, Woo's finest work. The action movie that put an end to all action movies.
Without a doubt, Woo is one of the best contemporary action movie directors.
I also have to give credit to Chow Yun-Fat for his brilliant role as Inspector Tequila,
who brings you the best of challenging police rules.
14. Face Off 1997
This movie is great thanks to the work of legendary Chinese action director John Woo,
and it's one of the best action movies released in the 90s. The story tells us of how an FBI
agent assumes the identity of a terrorist to find out where he had hidden a biological weapon.
The thing is, he did change his identity by going through a pretty futuristic procedure for the time,
a real face change. Can you imagine something similar? The scenes blew me away,
and the performance of John Travolta and Nicolas Cage too. It's even hard to believe that Sylvester
Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were originally called the star in the film.
Do you think it would have worked? We'll never know.
13. Supercop 1992
The best Jackie Chan action scenes. And believe me, it's not just magnificently explosive on screen.
Behind the scenes, there was a real competition between Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh to offer
the audience the best stunts. The consequences? While filming the scene where his character is
hanging from the side of the train, Jackie Chan was accidentally hit by the helicopter,
and he also dislocated his cheekbone during a stunt scene. For her part, Michelle challenged
herself to perform a motorcycle jump stunt, even though she couldn't even ride one before filming.
What a crazy pair!
12. The Bourne Ultimatum 2007
As part of the search for his true identity, this time Jason Bourne embarks on an exciting,
intelligent, international journey with which he gives us the third and best film in the Bourne
saga. Definitely my favorite! Who would say that director Paul Greengrass didn't have it in mind,
but the second installment was such a big box office hit that the creators had to develop a
new story from scratch? They made a great decision, because it not only topped the box office,
but it was the first film in the franchise to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Film
Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing. And guess what? It won all three!
11. Alien 1979
Nothing like an excellent flamethrower to hunt down space creatures and androids.
Alien takes us to an environment of irresistible tension and suspense,
where petty officer Ripley's fight for survival is truly compelling. Alien was such a box office
success it won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, three Saturn Awards, and a Hugo Award.
After 40 years, this masterpiece still feels deadly contemporary,
but the chestburster scene feels very fresh, doesn't it?
10. Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981
The movie that made me a fan of great epic adventures. Raiders of the Lost Ark mixes
action, suspense, history, and even occultism. I love it! It became the highest-grossing film
of 1981 and was played in select theaters for over a year. Unbelievable!
Another unbelievable thing is that Indy, played by Harrison Ford, not only got sick with food
poisoning but had to deal with an out-of-control plane passing over his knee and tearing a ligament
in his left leg. Instead of receiving medical attention, Ford just had his knee packed with
ice and kept going. That's gutsy. 9. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 1966
Shots here and there. Of course, its soundtrack is etched in your memory.
The story of this film is fascinating. It has three powerful characters, a compelling story,
and impressive landscapes amid the chaos of the American Civil War. Also, Sergio Leone's
direction is so good that you can enjoy every moment of the film despite lasting three hours.
If you claim to be a lover of good movies, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is a gem you cannot miss.
8. The Fugitive 1993
Harrison Ford starred in a critical and commercial success once again.
This time, he plays a fugitive who gets caught up in a relentless pursuit.
You can feel the adrenaline in every scene of The Fugitive and enjoy its amazing plot twists.
Sure, there are iconic scenes like this one. Sorry, this one. Another remarkable thing about
it is the state-of-the-art special effects and the mastery of condensing a 120-episode
television series into 130 minutes. What a great result!
7. Snowpiercer 2013
Listen up to the story. The plot takes place in a post-apocalyptic age, where the last
survivors of humanity are on board a super train divided by two social classes that are clearly set
apart. However, the collective dissatisfaction will make the protagonist lead a riot to gain
control and the future of the world. This story of combat, heroism, and discovery was based on
the French graphic novel Les Transpersonnages, and I totally back Chris Evans up on the leading role.
There was a tiny problem, though. The director wasn't sure about offering the role to the
American actor since he was too brawny. It wouldn't have been fair.
6. Die Hard 1988
My favorite from director John McTiernan. The story takes place on Christmas Eve and is about
a New York police officer who must do anything to save his wife who was taken hostage. And I'm not
exaggerating when I say that the scenes involved a display of stunts, blows, gunshots, blood,
and many special effects, which were made possible thanks to the skills of Bruce Willis.
You can't miss this true display of action. However, not everything went as he would have
liked because, in addition to having several cuts in the recording, the American actor lost
two-thirds of his hearing in his left ear for good. What a tragedy!
5. The Dark Knight 2008
You'll get a bunch of crime, chaos, and idealism here. For its deep script and good quality acting,
I believe this is the best superhero movie. Sorry, Marvel.
Keith Ledger's Joker puts in a dazzling performance and is way more harsh and impressive.
On the other hand, we have a very human version of Batman. This time,
Christian Bale was so pushed to the limit by his antagonist that he had to put extra effort
during the scene, as Ledger wanted to be hit as hard as possible so that the scene was very
realistic. Wow, quite unforgettable. 4. Top Gun Maverick 2022
After Tom Cruise publicly rejected the idea of making a sequel to Top Gun,
seeing him come back after 36 years gave me a lot of satisfaction.
It's a complete work of art. Orally speaking, it managed to envelop me, and let alone the
visuals, they're impressive. The shots and aerial sequences are flawless, without abusing special
effects. It turns out that using green screens wasn't an option for Cruise since they couldn't
represent the distortions of the face produced by gravity. When it was necessary, he even piloted
some jets and helicopters for the scenes. You didn't expect less from him, did you?
3. Mission Impossible Fallout 2018 A spectacular balance between rhythm and story,
Ethan Hunt goes from one exciting sequence to another and then another so quickly that you'll
time to catch your breath. Of course, Tom Cruise's mind-blowing driving skills are an
exceptional element. But if there's something to highlight about this installment, that's the CGI
that makes you feel like you're in the middle of the action. No wonder critics called it
the most exciting installment yet. 2. Mad Max Fury Road 2015
The adrenaline rush I experienced here is second to none. In addition to being listed as the best
Australian film of the last decade, it was nominated 233 times and won a total of 247
awards, including six Oscars, the Popresky Award from professional film critics, four BAFTA Awards,
and the Fotogramist de Plata Award. It was worth the effort, because it took the protagonists,
Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, nearly 138 days to record a single scene. Did you want action?
You'll find it in every minute of this film. It doesn't matter whether you've seen the next
movie or not, we all know who is. 1. The Terminator 1984
Chase, explosions, and even romance. If you ask me, The Terminator has everything to be the big
winner. This sci-fi action film heralded the arrival of director James Cameron as one of
Hollywood's greatest talents and represented the takeoff of Arnold Schwarzenegger's career in the
film industry. Must be difficult to look like a cyber-assassin, but Schwarzenegger mastered the
art of looking robotic hands down. So, against all odds, it topped the US box office for two
weeks in a row. The cinema wouldn't be the same without action movies, that's for sure.
