Easily Fix A Floppy Reverse Unit (And How Do They Work?)
A common problem for Lionel O and O27 gauge locomotives is a reverse unit lever, or more technically, an E Unit lever, that flops back and forth and does not want to remain in its correct position. This, of course, causes the locomotive to behave erratically - if it will run at all.
I needed an easy option to fix the problem. When I discovered my fix, I also offered the same repair for my father’s Lionel #221 steamer, which had the same problem.
But, before we get into the repair, what exactly IS an E unit, and how does it work?
