Today we'll explore animal known as the "forest man " the proboscis monkey
One of the most intelligent and emotionally rich primates on Earth
Orangutans inhabit the dense tropical rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra
The name Orangutan comes from the Malay word meaning "
person of the forest " and this is by no means coincidental
Scientific studies have shown that the orangutan shares nearly 97% of its DNA with humans
They are capable of thinking remembering and solving complex problems
In nature orangutans are known to use branches to fish for insects and long sticks to extract honey
Even knowing how to use leaves as an umbrella to shield from rain
A dinner they built themselves a new sleeping nest high up in the tree
This nest is securely attached to a sturdy tree branch capable of supporting the weight of a body several dozen kilograms
What's remarkable is that they do this nearly every day Unlike many
other social primates orangutan males typically live solitary lives
Adult males can weigh over 90 kilograms and have two distinctive large cheek pads
These pads not only make them appear more imposing but also serve to attract mates and signal dominance
Yet what moved scientists the most was the animal's selfless devotion
A young animal may stay with its mother for up to eight years making it one of the longest parenting periods in the animal kingdom
Throughout that time the mother orangutan taught her offspring every survival skill—how to choose ripe fruit how to climb safely and how to recognize danger
Thighs can also convey emotions very clearly
They may grieve when losing a calf rejoice upon reuniting with others and even show signs of empathy
But unfortunately this species of forest-dwelling human is currently facing a severe threat of extinction
According to international conservation organizations the number of wild pangolins has declined sharply over the past few decades
The primary cause is deforestation for palm oil cultivation and logging
Each year thousands of hectares of tropical forest disappear severely shrinking the habitat of the orangutan
When the forest is destroyed the pangolin is forced to move down to the ground to find food
making them more vulnerable to hunting or conflict with
humans Many young individuals are illegally captured for trade
Protecting the proboscis monkey is not just about saving a primate species
It also serves to protect the tropical rainforest ecosystem often regarded as the planet's lungs
If forests disappear climate will change biodiversity will decline
and ultimately humans themselves will suffer the consequences
The wild boar is not merely a wild animal it is living
proof of the connection between humans and nature
If the call of the hornbill ever falls silent in
the deep forest that would be an irreplaceable loss
