This video is about Van Eyck. Jan van Eyck, a Flemish painter active in Bruges, was born in 1390. He became known for his Early Netherlandish painting and is one of the most important painters of the Early Northern Renaissance. In 1422, he was already a master painter with a workshop assistant and employed as a painter for the ruler of Holland. He was highly regarded and undertook a number of diplomatic visits abroad. One of his most important pieces is the Ghent Altarpiece, the "Adoration of the Lamb," and the "Arnolfini Wedding." Van Eyck painted both secular and religious pieces, including altarpieces, single panel religious figures, and commissioned portraits. Van Eyck's work comes from the International Gothic style, but he soon extended on it by including the use of oil paint. He was highly influential and inspired many Early Netherlandish painters. He dies in Bruges in 1441. What I love the most about his paintings are his attention to detail and his high contrast. He also has the ability to exquisitely paint shiny metals such as gold is very rich compositions.
