Cade Horton since the All-Star break, he has been one of the best pitchers. Forget about rookies,
one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball. This guy's figuring it out right now. As he's progressing,
understanding what it takes for him to continue to get more and more success each time
he goes out there. So it's fun to watch, and if he throws strikes with his fastball tonight, he's gonna dominate again.
He's just got that kind of stuff. Swing and a miss, and Horton eats him up.
Three pitches added out,
and Acuna is gone. So Horton with the strikeout to begin, and here's Olsen. Six foul balls,
and here is pitch number 10.
What a hard-earned walk for the Braves first baseman Matt Olsen.
Here is Ozzie Albee stumping in, switch hitter batting left-handed, bounces to second, Horner goes to second one,
Swanson to first, and not in time.
You have a couple of Rookie of the Year candidates spacing off right here. Here comes the 2-1.
Lifted to left, playable for Happ.
Angling back, making the catch near the track, straightaway left.
Cade Horton puts a zero on the board in the first inning. Elder is a guy that's had his ups and downs this year, and
kind of a four-pitch guy, but three pitches really for him.
He's given up a lot of gopher balls. The wind today is blowing out.
It should be a very good day for the Cubs offense today.
Elder's gonna spin the ball a little bit, but a couple breaking balls, decent fastball,
but you know, 91-92 is where he's gonna top out with his heater.
Line towards center, Harris into the gap, he's got it. Michael Bush, righty-lefty matchup on the 1-2.
Fandom, swung on and missed at a fastball.
Good job by Elder, burying that fastball into the left-handed batter.
No score in bottom of the first, the batter, Seagoff Suzuki.
1-1 line shot, taken on a bounce by Kim.
He's got it cleanly, sends it over to first base, and there's a 1-2-3, bottom of the first, composed by Bryce Elder.
Marcel Ozuna with that distinctive batting stance, wide open, right-handed hitter.
Horton ready.
2-2.
Swing and a miss, struck him out.
He went change-up, right on right.
Two outs, bases clear, as Cade Horton goes to work here in the top half of inning number two.
Popped up, foul behind the pin, Hatton had gone 16 games with one run batted in.
He's now gone six straight games with at least one RBI. It's the longest streak of his career.
This one lifted in the air, left field.
Big turn for Hatton, as the throw comes back in, and then the throw gets away into the cat, and it'll get 90 feet.
It'll be an E-7, and actually, Hatton's gonna get two bases because of that.
Sure, Eli's kicking himself, and maybe even cussing himself after that throw.
Well, the last thing you want to give any major league team is extra outs, but especially this one.
Yeah.
Hard hit, but Matt Olsen stops it, and that keeps Hatton at third base.
That was a bullet, and Alex Dansby swats it.
So, these are the type of runs that you need early in the game. Calm K down a little bit, put a run on the board.
3-2, on the corner, strike three.
Dansby tried to sell the walk, but Malachi Moore had other ideas.
So, it's up to Willie Castro now with two outs.
Happ at third, Cubs looking to strike first.
This is one of those momentum at-bats.
It looked for sure like the Cubs would get on the board, and they still might.
Line drive, right field, that one is in.
Willie Castro, RBI single to right, 1-0 Cubs with the lead.
Cubs getting that run in the second inning.
Let's see if Cade Horton can hold on to the lead and win his tenth game.
Swing and a miss, and he just got Eli White on three pitches, third strikeout.
That's gonna be out number two.
Swing and a fly ball, deep right center, well hit.
Back goes Castro near the fence.
Willie makes a running catch.
Very nice play by the utility man, Willie Castro.
McGuire goes to third, and now let's see if Suzuki can drive in a run.
Elder spins it up there, and a fly ball to deep right field.
Ronald Acuna over to his left, drifting back, edge of the warning track,
makes it over the shoulder catch, and there's the third out.
Cade Horton will get back to work as he faces Matt Olson
here at the top of the fourth.
Next pitch, in there, got him, and Olson is gone,
and that is strikeout number four for Cade Horton.
One away in the batter, Ozzie Albies.
Here's a 2-2.
And a swing and a miss struck him out, back-to-back strikeouts.
Cubs lead 1-0 in the batter, Drake Baldwin.
The 1-1.
His line caught.
Oh, Dansby.
He steals a hit from Baldwin on the full layout.
You can make a pretty long highlight reel just on the plays he's made
in the last seven or eight games, Ron.
He's been incredible.
Braves, CJ, you look at, they don't have any hits,
but they've had some hard-hit balls tonight off of Cade Horton.
Two down, here's the shortstop, Ha-Sung Kim.
Swing and a miss, and he struck him out.
Five scoreless no-hit innings for Cade Horton so far.
Braves, goose eggs all over the scoreboard.
Haven't even gotten a hit yet off Cubs starter Cade Horton,
but because he's pushing his innings limit for the season,
he's out of the game after five no-hit innings.
On to relieve him, the right-hander Ben Brown.
Brown back to work, 3-2.
Swing and a miss struck him out, and there's one away.
One out, one on, back to the top of the order
for Ronald Acuna, Jr.
It is gone, second strikeout for Brown, and that's a biggie.
Not out of the woods yet, however.
Braves still looking for their first hit
with two outs in the sixth inning.
Strike three called to end the inning.
Bullseye for Brown, he hit the outside corner.
Cubs won, Braves nothing into the top of the seventh inning.
Braves in search of their first hit of the game.
To this point, a combined no-hitter
between two Cubs pitchers.
Ozzie's 0 for 2.
The no-no is no more.
First hit for the Braves comes in the seventh inning
off the bat of Ozzie Albee.
And leave it to Ozzie, who's put together good numbers
in his career in this ballpark,
and they're at the corners with two down.
One of the newest Braves, Ha-Sung Kim, climbing in.
But a base hit right here ties the contest.
He drives it to left.
Ha-Sung Kim's first homer as a Brave is a big one.
What a first impression for the newest Brave.
That's what we were missing,
a little power out of the shortstop position there.
How nice to see a Brave hitter
rewarded for some hard contact here tonight.
Braves have come alive here in the seventh.
So he's in scoring position.
That brings Nacho Alvarez up to the plate.
Two-two and a flare to right field.
That will drop in for a hit.
Eli burning a path around third,
coming across and scoring.
Nacho Alvarez dunks one in the right
and makes it 4-1 Braves in the seventh.
Work on Matt Olson.
Lefty against lefty.
That will be... Oh!
Matt Shaw flags it down!
Goodness! Wow.
What a play.
That's hell, yeah.
And that look on Roger's face says it all.
I mean, get out of here.
Here's Ozzie Albee.
Just got popped.
This might be another homer.
Ozzie Albee's deep to left.
And it's gone!
His second of the series.
He is swinging a hot bat right now.
And he gives the Braves a four-run cushion.
And the Cubs still alive.
Two on, two out.
Carlos Santana.
Real step to the plate.
5-1 Braves.
We're in the ninth.
Here comes the crowd.
Pitch!
Strike three!
Santana frozen.
Ball game over.
Braves win.
They end the road trip on a high note.
5-1 the final at Wrigley.
