For a check now of the AccuWeather forecast.
Yeah, the meteorologist Brittany Boyer and Cecily Tynan
tracking it all in the Weather Center with the details.
It's that packed together snow, right?
It's perfect for making snowmen.
It's perfect for maybe snowball fights tomorrow
when the kids are home from school.
Yeah, not too perfect for the adults
that have to clean up the snow though,
because it is that heavy, wet consistency.
Yeah, absolutely.
Get the teenagers in your neighborhood
to go ahead and do it.
And let's head over to the Action News Weather Center
because the reason why it's that heavy, wet snow,
it's the temperature.
If you want a light, fluffy snow,
you need a lot of cold air.
You look at these temperatures and they are marginal.
They're only around freezing or just slightly below
and they stay steady all night long.
We're also getting some bands of some heavy snow
working in from the Atlantic.
StormTracker zoomed in and showing
that we've got one band that's moving
through parts of Chester County right now,
Montgomery County.
Another one that's moving through Bucks County,
Northeast Philadelphia, right through Philadelphia.
And that actually band extends through Camden,
Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland County.
You can see it's rotating to the west.
It'll be pushing into Delaware.
And then we've got plenty more on the way.
We're getting those feeder bands from that system
that's almost acting like a tropical storm
bringing us the rotating bands of the moisture.
It's also reducing visibility.
We're down to a half mile in Philadelphia,
half mile in Millville, three quarters mile in Trenton.
So that's another reason why it's really important
to stay off the roads.
Not only are the roads snow covered and slippery,
it's really hard to see.
That light radar showing this low pressure,
it's bombing out.
It's rapidly intensifying by tomorrow morning.
It'll likely have the pressure that's equivalent
of a category two hurricane.
So when you have a storm like this,
you get rising air on the Northwest flank.
We also have what's known as inverted trough,
which is also an area of rising air.
But between the two, you get subsidence,
you get sinking air.
So that's why part of our far Northwest suburbs,
they're kind of getting ripped off with the snowfall totals
with that sinking air.
For more details on that, let's bring in Brittany Boyers
because this really does have an effect
on the snowfall totals.
Absolutely, and we've been watching all of the reports
trickle in by the minute to the National Weather Service.
And I will say that the four to eight inch area
is doing pretty good,
mostly getting four inch reports out of parts of Berks
and also out of parts of Lehigh County.
Then as we work our way here into the I-95 corridor,
that eight to 12 inch area,
we do have a couple of reports that have been coming in
from Camden County around 10 inches or so.
So we do have some high reports coming in,
still looking at 12 to 18 inches of snow here
as you work your way into parts of South Jersey,
the Jersey Shore, also into coastal Delaware.
Keep in mind, we still have several hours to go
as this system continues.
And I mentioned the fact that, yeah,
it's good snow for snowball making and snowman making,
but not so good if you're going to be doing any shoveling.
We call it a heart attack snow
just because it has a lot of moisture content to it.
It's extremely strenuous work,
even for people that are in shape.
If you have a heart condition
or any kind of respiratory condition,
take your time or better yet, find somebody and pay them,
somebody that can do it for you
and it'll be a lot safer of an outcome.
Next several hours, snow continues.
Notice where that dry slot is that Cecily mentioned.
We'll start to see the snow tapering off
north and west of the city.
Seven o'clock tomorrow morning,
still some snow showers around Philadelphia
toward the Jersey Shore.
Even after lunchtime,
the last of the snow showers moving through the area.
Your exclusive AccuWeather seven-day forecast,
the AccuWeather alert, light snow letting up tomorrow.
It's windy, 38 degrees, 33 degrees, partly sunny
as we head into the day on Tuesday.
And then we have a clipper system
that we're going to be watching come midweek
with some morning snow showers Wednesday
followed by some sun,
some late day rain and snow showers on Thursday.
And then finally, a little bit better with temperatures
getting into the 50s,
hopefully some big time melting next weekend.
Yeah, big time.
We're ready for it.
All right, thank you.
