Yamadera Temple in Yamagata【solotrip in Japan🇯🇵】
I visited Yamadera Temple in Yamagata to see magnificent snowy landscape.
Yamadera Temple🏔️:
Risshakuji is commonly known as “Yamadera.” The entire mountain, composed of bizarre rocks, serves as a place for ascetic practice and faith. Along the roughly one-hour path from the trailhead to the Great Buddha Hall, breathtaking scenery unfolds everywhere.
The classic pilgrimage route involves climbing the long stone staircase of 1,015 steps to reach the Okunoin. These sacred steps are said to purge worldly desires through the act of ascending. While considered a spiritual practice, the climb offers numerous points of interest along the way, such as historical monuments like haiku monuments and spots with breathtaking views, allowing visitors to enjoy the journey both intellectually and sensually. The nearest station, Yamadera Station, is about a 20-minute train ride from Yamagata Station.
Directions from Tokyo🚄:

Train, JR Senzan Line (Yamagata Sta. to Yamadera Sta.)
