Kind of playing this by ear. So we got Dan over here drinking some coffee.
Going to show us having a little lunch today, fellas. Hey,
we don't actually schedule these things. Um,
we just thought it'd be cool to show you what we got going on today.
Cause we're back down in the shop.
I know last week we showed you how we did Cedar tongue and groove,
but we just got our poplar,
which we're turning into interior tongue and groove siding.
So we're going to actually finish all the walls and the carriage house with
this. But I wanted to show you the rough sawn wood.
This is what's come off our mill.
We've had everything dried up in our kiln right there.
So this wood was probably cut four or five months ago, air dried,
been in our kiln. This thing. Hey, Nate, thanks for joining.
Nate. Good to see you on a Monday, buddy.
I know we're just springing lunch on you, but, uh,
we're doing some dried wood here. My friend,
look at this poplar that we're making. It's almost ridiculous.
I was kind of telling these guys, you gotta make sure this wood is dry.
If you look at my meter, just reading low means I'm under the 10%
show you how it works. Dan's running low. There we go.
I'm usually 33% water. So you're a little dry today.
So to make this siding, gotta make sure your wood is dry.
Jason and I got this out of the kiln yesterday.
We've actually already sized everything to the sizes that we're ready to run
through our molder.
But what we did is we've taken our rough saw material right
off our mill.
We put a rough plane on the backside of this so that this is actually
going to run through our machines nice and smooth.
And you're going to have very consistent boards.
Now it doesn't need to be, it's not the greatest plane job,
but it gave us a perfectly smooth edge.
And then we run it through our finished paint planer, which, uh,
I showed you last time had the helical head on it. It gives you a perfect,
perfect. I mean, there's no sanding. This is 220 grit.
You just stain this baby and put it on.
So we didn't even have to set up our machines.
All I had to do was regage it. And, uh,
let's run you a couple of pieces, you know,
show you how this actual piece turns out.
All right. I'm going to get noisy. It's going to get a little noisy.
I don't know if you can actually see it, but, uh,
the router saw pads, it came back on. So I'm speeding up the RPM.
Maybe it's a bigger cut.
I'm going to slow the feed down, go a little slower.
We're cutting it.
It's enough of that, right fellas?
That looks good.
It's loud.
Jay does.
What'd you say?
He's not on camera though.
So you can say poplar.
I probably should have had my routers turned up faster because the cedar we went through,
no issue.
Poplar's a little bit harder.
Believe it or not, it is a type of hardwood, just a soft hardwood.
So that was my bad, but you see, easy, fix your way right out of it.
That piece, that where we have the messed up cut here, I'll just cut down, make to the
next size.
That's why I always start with our biggest pieces.
So if we have screw ups, I cut it down, it goes down to an inch smaller, inch smaller,
inch smaller, inch smaller until I can't get anything out of it anymore.
We thought we'd just stop by and say, hey, show you that you could do a lot more with
your wood master, a lot more with the wood off your saw, a lot more with the wood off
your property.
It just takes a little time, a little patience, but you make beautiful product other than
just rough sawn material.
Yeah, Nate said it looks, it's therapeutic seeing how it looks pretty easy.
It is.
You know, honestly, this is an easy day for two guys here.
We were even talking about how we enjoy being in the shop.
That's why we figured we would hang out with you guys today.
I know it's a Monday.
Most of you are working, but we're at it too.
Having a little lunch.
That's right.
Have a good week, everybody.
Nate.
Always, buddy.
Yeah, thanks, Nate.
See ya.
Bye, guys.
