420g (14.8oz) nian gao (Chinese New Year cake), sliced into 1cm-thick pieces
For the batter
50g (1.8oz) plain flour (all-purpose flour)
25g (0.9oz) cornflour (cornstarch)

¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
