Deep in the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan, a family follows ancient winter rhythms. Two hunters track a wild yak through deep mountain snow, bring the massive animal down and butcher it on the slope. They haul hundreds of kilograms of meat back to their stone village on a handmade sled. In the yard, huge chunks roast over an open fire on a wooden spit while fresh bread bakes on the hot clay walls of a tandoor inside the house. The family gathers to eat together.
