A Trump administration plan could release 2.5 million acres of timberland in western Oregon to boost domestic timber production, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced on Feb. 18. An official notice was published on Thursday, opening a period for public comment through March 23.

The lands are part of the “Oregon and California Railroad Revested Lands,” which span 18 western Oregon counties. Revenue from timber harvested there helps fund schools, libraries, public safety, and infrastructure.
