Glove DNA Found in Nancy Guthrie's Home Does Not Match Any in FBI Database, Sheriff Says
NA recovered from a glove found about two miles from the home of missing Arizona grandmother Nancy Guthrie did not match any profile in the national Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) database, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Monday in a post on X. The agency added that other DNA recovered inside Guthrie’s home is still undergoing analysis.
Guthrie, 84, the mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her Catalina Foothills home on Jan. 31 and was reported missing the next day when she failed to arrive at church. Her wallet, car, cellphone, hearing aid, and daily medications were left behind, and investigators found her blood on the front porch. Authorities believe she was abducted.
Doorbell camera footage showed a masked figure in thick gloves and carrying a backpack approach the home, appearing armed and trying to obstruct the camera with plants. Investigators later recovered a glove near the house that the FBI said appears to match one worn by the masked person in the video, and federal agents collected a total of 16 gloves in the neighborhood, mostly discarded by volunteer searchers.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has publicly ruled out Guthrie’s relatives as suspects, calling them “victims plain and simple.” In a Feb. 16 statement, he said “the Guthrie family - to include all siblings and spouses - has been cleared as possible suspects in this case” and pleaded with journalists to “report with some sense of compassion and professionalism.”
