These Affordable Watches Should NOT Be This Cheap!

If there's one thing I've learned after collecting watches for over 20 years, it's you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a great watch. There's no doubt luxury brands make incredible, beautifully finished timepieces, but a big chunk of what you're paying for is the name on the dial. On the flip side, the affordable space is packed with watches that deliver serious quality, style, and functionality at a fraction of the price. Today we're taking a look at six brand new releases that prove you can get amazing value without breaking the bank. With the explosion of integrated sports watches over the past decade, the market's been flooded with both original designs and modern revivals. Ever since AP kicked off the whole category in 1972 with the Royal Oak, the style mostly lived in the high-end world alongside heavy hitters like Patek and Vesey. But this recent boom has brought a lot more affordable options to the scene. Pieces like the Tissot PRX, Christopher War 12, and the Acon. One of the best, and weirdly the least talked about, is the Alpina Extreme. A bold, rugged, integrated sports watch from Alpina. A legit heritage Swiss brand known for making tough, outdoor-ready tool watches. If you haven't been paying attention to this watch, now's a good time. Because they just dropped a new version that adds even more versatility, lands in the sweet spot size, and even comes in cheaper. What's really cool is how this is the first time the brand has made a solar-powered collection. Which is kind of crazy given their outdoorsy DNA and the fact that they're made by Citizen, who has one of the best sports movements out there with the EcoDrive. But as they say, better late than never. Design-wise, it sticks to the familiar Extreme formula with the angular case, symmetrical crown guards, brushed bezel with six exposed screws, stamped with the mountain logo, along with the flat H-Link integrated bracelet. Because integrated bracelet designs do wear a little bit larger, I like how they went with the 37.5mm case. Lug to lug is a super compact 38.9mm, and the thickness is just over 10. Creating a really slim profile and will just look awesome on the wrist. There's also 100m of water resistance, which is really fantastic for an everyday piece. The dial keeps the signature repeating mountain logo pattern, but drops the chunky 3D texture because it's actually translucent, letting light pass through to the solar cells underneath. Inside is the AL140 solar quartz movement, developed with sister manufacturer Le Joux Peret. It'll not only charge with any light source, but as wild as this sounds, one minute of light gives it a full day of power. And a full charge will last up to 10 months. The watch looks super premium, and I love the applied markers, loom-filled hands, framed date at the 3, plus a blue outline triangle at 12, and matching blue counterweight on the seconds hand that's unique to this new collection. You have two different options on how you wear the watch, with both a steel bracelet and an integrated rubber strap. This is definitely a luxury watch with all the great details and specs, and price-wise, it's around $1300 on rubber, or $1600 on the steel bracelet. There's also 5 color options to choose from, so definitely something for everyone. There really aren't many automatic world time watches for under 5 figures, so when Ferrer dropped their world time collection in 2019, it almost felt like it was too good to be true. How could something this complicated even be possible at this price? There's definitely more competition in the space now, but honestly, Ferrer is still making some of the best affordable world timers you could buy. Now they've added 3 new models to the collection, and the big headline might be that we're finally getting all gold versions with PVD cases. Originally, every Ferrer world time had its own totally unique dial design, but the brand has standardized the lineup around its most popular model, the Roche. Of these 3 new releases, there's really only one new dial color called the Thorn, and it comes in 2 versions, one in stainless steel, and one in gold PVD. The Thorn rocks a burgundy dial with a barleycorn guilloche texture, a burgundy rotating inner bezel with 24 world cities printed in white, and a center world map that uses burgundy oceans with gold-toned accents. The indices are chunky white lumacaz blocks, which is that lume-infused ceramic, and the steel version gets a silver handset while the Thorn gold swaps in gold hands and coats the entire 38mm case in yellow gold PVD, which really takes this collection to a whole new premium level. The third release is basically a gold-up version of the existing Fox, keeping its forest green dial but adding gold PVD to the case, with mint green accents replacing the gold tones you see on the Thorn. All 3 versions get a color-matched date window at the 3 o'clock, which is definitely a nice attention to detail, and it's powered by the Selita SW331 automatic movement, which is essentially a tweaked version of the SW330 GMT that uses a rotating 24-hour disk instead of a GMT hand. To use the world time function, you line up your city on the inner bezel using the crown at the 10, and then you can read the time across 24 cities at once. We definitely see far too many limited releases in the watch world, so it's great that these are part of the permanent collection. As far as the price, it ranges from $1,715 up to $1,790. And like usual with Vera, you have a bunch of strap options to choose from, which just adds even more value to this watch. Back in 2021, Baltic launched the MR series, and it quickly became one of the best affordable dress watches out there. A big reason for that is they nailed that classic look, especially with the Breguet-style numerals, but also because it had a micro-rotor movement, which you usually only see in way more expensive pieces. Now, 5 years later, the brand is retiring the first-gen MR. But before it goes, they're giving it a proper send-off with the pretty wild version that adds a moissanite-set bezel. If you're not familiar with moissanite, it's basically a lab-grown alternative to diamonds. It's super hard, crazy clear, and actually throws even more color sparkle than a diamond. On this MR, the bezel is set with 40 Breguet cut stones in a full circle. So yeah, it's got some serious wrist presence. And it's matched with the glossy black dial under a domed tesla-like crystal to keep those vintage vibes intact. What's cool is there's two versions available to choose from. The classic, which sticks closest to the original MR, with applied Breguet numerals and leaf hands. And the 70s-leading roulette with printed markers and faceted daffian hands. Both still get the guilloche small seconds at 7 and the minute railroad track. The case stays the same as well. 36mm wide, 9.9mm in thickness, with a stainless steel brushed and polished finishing. Plus that microrotor movement that powers the engine, which has been frosted black to give it even more of a luxurious look. You can get the watch on a black or camel leather strap, or a Beats of Bryce bracelet. It's priced at $1,300 on leather, or just $70 more for that steel bracelet. Each version is limited to just 100 pieces, and I suspect it's going to sell out really fast. We're starting to see a big trend emerge this year, and smaller watches are having their moment. Especially when it comes to dressier pieces, and Timex is right there with them. Their fan-favorite QTimex line usually sits around 38mm. But if you want something just a little bit smaller, that's where the QTimex Mini comes in. And I think it just got the best update we've seen, with a nice blue dial. The first two Mini models were both golds, one with a pink dial, and the other with a cream dial. And while they looked really cool, golds isn't for everyone, which made an already niche watch feel a little more niche, because of that tiny size. This new version fixes that, by giving it a stainless steel case and bracelet, and just overall a more vintage feel. The real star though is the dial and bezel color. It's very close to the timpani style blue you've seen pretty much everywhere, from Rolex watches to Nike sneakers. But Timex calls this shade Ice Blue. Either way, the steel and blue combo gives the watch a fresh new look that feels perfect going into spring. Because of the watch's size, there are a couple things that definitely worth pointing out. For example, the bezel looks like a dive timer, but it doesn't rotate at all. It's fixed since it holds the Arabic numerals to keep the dial from feeling compact. The same story goes with the bracelet. You won't find a clasp because it has Timex's Perfect Fit expansion bands that stretches when you slide it on or off. But you are still able to size it to help get that perfect fit. Inside, you've got a reliable and super accurate quartz movement. On top, you have an acrylic crystal to help fuel that vintage look, and they are easy to polish when you get scratches. It also has 50 meters of water resistance, great for everyday use. This watch looks great, built tough, and it's priced for only $199. From the turtle to the samurai, the Seiko name sits on some of the most well-known tool watches out there. But it also has its name on some more unique and under-the-radar pieces as well. One of the strangest and all the best kind of ways is the metronome. First released in 2022, it was a super niche, quirky piece that's basically unlike anything else in the brand's lineup. It doesn't have a rotating bezel, it's not made for diving, and it's definitely not your typical sports watch. But what it does have is a built-in metronome that can track tempo from 40 all the way up to 304 beats per minute. It was originally made for musicians in mind. But for 2026, it's back in a more everyday beater form, literally and figuratively. This is all thanks to a collaboration with legendary Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara of Fragment Design. He quietly released two versions through his Tokyo shop, one with the black dial and the other in white. Both run on Seiko's PA50 quartz movement inside a compact 36mm case paired with a black needle strap and polished hardware. The good news and the bad news. They retail for around $288, but they did sell out really fast, and now it looks like the gray market prices are hovering around $1,000. Hopefully, though, we get a worldwide release because this watch is pretty darn cool. With roots tracing back all the way to 1983 with the DW500C, aka the very first G-Shock, the 5600 series is kind of sacred ground for the brands and fans. It officially landed in 1987, so it's got a long legendary run behind it. But even that history feels young compared to its inspiration behind this newest version, which pulls from ancient Japanese art, origami, a craft that's been around for over a thousand years. What's really cool is G-Shock didn't stop with just the 5600. They also gave the origami treatment to the rounder 6900 series as well. The 5600 comes in black, while the 6900 comes in white. The theme ties into origami's connection to celebrations, gift-giving, and Japanese New Year traditions. But thankfully, the execution isn't overdone or feel gimmicky. I think they kept things clean with a subtle motif of dotted folding lines across the dial, case, and resin strap. It's the kind of detail that makes you look twice. A bit like those sketch dials, but still feels every bit a G-Shock. There are some quieter touches as well, like the washi paper-inspired texture running from the bezel through the bands, and when you hit the LED backlight or flip the watch over, you'll see a crane graphic. One of the most iconic origami symbols and a sign of good fortune. Underneath all that design is the same tough affordable G-Shock we all love. Resin case, bio-based resin bezel, shock resistance, 200 meters of water resistance, and about a 5-year battery life. Feature-wise, you're getting the full digital toolkit. Stopwatch, countdown timer, multifunction alarm, flash alerts, LED backlight with afterglow, and an auto-calendar running all the way to 2019. Safe to say, both origami and G-Shock will still be going strong by then. This new G-Shock is available for only $165. Well, that's it for the watches today. Definitely let me know which was your favorite, or if there's just one you didn't like at all. As always, thanks for watching. I'll see you next time.
