Seven-time world champion known as The Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire There's no doubt that the moment has arrived for Philippine boxing to reignite Because the four-division world champion the living legend of the Philippines Nonito the Filipino Flash Toneire is set to return to one of Japan's largest stages For many years Toneire symbolized speed courage and discipline A warrior forged by time To this day the fury in his fists has not yet faded He held a historic record 43 wins 28 knockouts and nine losses Despite his age his name remained a topic of conversation in the greatest fight the world has ever seen On March 15 2026 he will face off against Japanese contender Riku Masuda He has nine wins one loss and eight knockouts This opponent is no pushover Masuda also holds high rankings in various world boxing organizations His knockout power was clearly evident when he dropped Jonas Sultan in the first round This bout is a title eliminator in Japan The winner will advance to a world championship fight But to better understand just how intense the prime version of Filipino flash is let's revisit the fight that stopped a Japanese superstar The showdown against Japan's so-called speed king world champion Toshiki Nishioka Today Nishioka carries nearly a perfect record and an impressive winning streak Many Filipinos had fallen to him and everyone expected Donaire to be next But as soon as the fight began the tension was immediately palpable Speed against speed lightning against lightning The Japanese fighter was caught off guard by the Filipino's left-hand strikes In the early rounds a crisp left hook from Donaire began to shift the momentum of the fight As Nishioka's confidence waned Donaire grew increasingly fired up Now Donaire has all the weapons all the tools and all the speed but part of Nishioka's strategy here is to gently pressure him and force a mistake He needs to start taking that shot As the fight goes on the number of Filipino flash combinations increases The Japanese champion's powerful fast punch was a tough challenge Donaire's best weapon he said ha the left hook So what I ended up doing was targeting his right shoulder Not bad that they had to stop the fight due to injury to his right shoulder He's not trying to get caught with a shot he's trying to wake up Champion if he's intent on neutralizing Donaire If he's determined to neutralize Donaire By the fourth round the fight had reached a point where Japan's Speed King had not secured another round The Philippine champion's attack has now gone up and down In the midst of the battle it was here that the Japanese felt the full force of their own onslaught Until the moment arrived a clean solid counter struck home The speed king crashed got back up but it was clear he was already affected In the next round he tried to fight back But the Filipino was faster In round 8 Nashoka tried hard to recover but he still struggled to match the Filipino's pace Good enough for him I must say He steps in with a light combination to Donaire's chin Donaire fires back with a right hand He didn't travel all this way just to lose in battle Now that he's here he's not going to lose So now that he's in the zone he's thinking since I'm in here don't hold back He's ready to go all out with 31 pitches And he's ready to take them on in hopes of losing his own It's not a bad idea In round 9 Donaire finally ended the suffering of Japan's so-called Speed King A remarkably clean And in the final moment a remarkably clean counterpunch brought the fight to a definitive end Donaire launched a relentless series of attacks The referee then called an end to the bout Technical knockout victory over Nonito Donaire Proving it once again that true speed and power lie in the Filipino Flash Right now Donaire faces a new challenge once again The question on everyone's mind in the boxing world Can he still become world champion again Share your thoughts in the comments and let us know who you're rooting for To see just how widespread Filipino support is for Nonito Donaire ahead of his bout against Rico Masuda
