How the Zebra Got Its Stripes
So Hot!
This is the story of how the zebra got its stripes.
It begins in the desert, when the world was new.
Baboon!
The world was very hot.
So hot that there was not much water to drink.
Baboon sat by his fire, guarding the pool.
Lord of the Water
Baboon claimed he was the Lord of the Water.
No one was allowed to drink in the pool.
One day, Zebra came to the pool for a drink.
Baboon shouted angrily to Zebra,
Go away! This is my pool and I am the Lord of the Water.
Zebra replied,
This pool is for everyone.
Baboon was furious.
He yelled,
If you want it, you must fight for it.
He started hopping up and down in anger.
Zebra agreed and launched himself at Baboon.
The pair fought hard.
Then Zebra gave Baboon such an almighty kick.
He sent him flying through the air
and Baboon landed on the rocks behind them.
Right!
Meanwhile, Zebra lost his balance and fell into the fire.
The flame scorched his white fur
and left him with black stripes.
And that's how the Zebra got his stripes.
