In opposition the Labour party strongly supported mandating swift bricks in new homes - that support included backing the swift brick amendment when it was tabled on Conservative government legislation in 2023.

Last November - in a move which shocked and left conservationists aghast - the Labour government used a three-line whip to vote down a House of Lords amendment to make the bricks mandatory for new buildings.

Help us send a message to Keir Starmer’s government that it’s time to SAVE OUR SWIFTS.

Here’s how you can help - the UK government is currently inviting the public to submit views on a new draft of the National Planning Policy Framework which includes proposed measures to make swift bricks a standard feature in new developments.

You can email planning policy consultation using the link below and let them know that swift bricks must be mandated through building legislation not toothless guidance that won’t be followed to the scale needed.

But you need to act quickly - as the deadline is March 10th
