It is day four of our Easter Jeep Safari coverage and today is always an exciting part of our
Moab adventure because this is the day the Jeep brand comes out with some really cool concept
vehicles. I've been wanting to come out to this for like 10 years Fred has been out here a bunch
of times it's sort of always been a bucket list item for me. And Hurricane you're doing something
wild today aren't you? Yeah as exciting as today looks like it's going to be I think they're
shipping me off to the Moab swing which I'm not entirely sure if I'm brave enough to do quite yet
but definitely going to spectate. Is that where you like jump off a cliff and swing? You get fully
harnessed up and I think you full send off of a cliff so we'll see if I pull it together. No thanks
let's go check out these cars. This is a lot seeing some teasers open on social media but
seeing it in person is really just making me realize the photos will never do it justice.
They've got some really knockout standout concepts here with some incredible colors some really eye
catching stuff that we haven't seen yet and I'm really hoping that some of these maybe get brought
to production. If I had to pick one of these to take home with me it would definitely be this
concept right behind me. It's got that really cool retro vibe single cab I like the light rack up and
over the cab definitely has the uh the old school vibe which really pulls on my heartstrings so
that's the one I would take home for sure. Nice big 37 inch off-road tire lots of really cool
popping bright colors. I like the bronze wheels as well I might be slightly impartial I like bronze
wheels a lot but with the color combo here it looks pretty good. Check out the interior blue
stitching all the way around nice big white clean dash looks really good. This is probably my favorite
concept from this year. I think this is the wildest of all the concept vehicles every year they sort of
build one that just knocks it out of the park. This one might be it. This is the bug out concept
and the idea here is what if you had a Wrangler Unlimited that was built for overlanding but not
the type of overlanding that has become super popular where you add a whole bunch of stuff
but more of a lightweight overlanding where you slim down on all of the stuff you're taking with
you but you still have a vehicle that is capable to like have gear in it and maybe even sleep in
the back of it while you're off-roading. Yeah I think they were calling it compact camping it's
like the new style of not carrying too much with you. This thing is it's off the hinges it has a
full-blown like custom top roll cage it has all these cool things that I think are neat
and it's just wild to see this was somebody's idea and now it's a reality that's out here.
Let's take this thing for a spin. All right these are those hooks that I saw them putting in the
So do you know what these are for? They're for tying things down. And but look look in the back.
Oh it's for the hammock yeah that's awesome. Hammock life. So you could hang a hammock you
fold the seats back do a hammock the full length. That's cool. I'm just geeking out on like the
the roll cage and how they tied it into the b-pillars and the chopped windshield.
Yeah they did a clean job. They did an extremely clean job they are not messing around.
The amount of detail work that they do is just amazing even simple things like they painted the
shocks yellow on this even though they don't come yellow but they wanted to continue this theme all
the way through the dash is all painted yellow with this topo map on it. Yeah they don't they
don't cut any corners. Yeah well the seats have like topo map designs in like the back plate and
bottom plate. It's so cool. Let's go look at some more stuff. All right I finally got a chance to
drive one of the concepts and I think it was obvious that I wanted to drive the rewind concept.
This thing is amazing. This is Chris he is a designer for Jeep and this was sort of his brain
child. It looks great. It came out all right it's pretty cool. I'm happy with the way it turned out
it's got all the right vibes. It does this thing is a vibe. Yeah for sure. So I guess we go run a
loop out in the desert see how it off roads see how it handles come back and talk more about how
it looks. Let's get after it. All right. All right we're cruising the rewind. This is the super retro
vibe. I'm sure Jeep's been doing retro vibes since they started doing this concept stuff but this one
kicks it back to what 1989? Yeah somewhere around there. It's funny because I'm an 80s baby and
you know when I look back on what I think of as the 80s it's really anywhere from the mid-80s to
the late 90s right but it's that whole kind of loud colors and the graphics and just kind of a
fun time you know. It's super cool. This is the time period that people that are ready to be
sort of recreating their high school days see this and just be like sign me up. Yep absolutely.
I gotta show you something Chris. I'm not gonna lie I got a little bit of a spy photo
from Fred about a week and a half ago. Yes. Right as I was prepping my little Jeep TJ.
Oh hell yeah dude. Look at this thing. This is my latest creation. This is a low buck 1997
Jeep Wrangler TJ. Oh yes yes indeed. Look at this thing. When I was throwing this together
obviously the paint on the hood was sort of a homage to what you built but now that I've driven
that I'm kind of embarrassed. Hey man you know what the splatter paint though that's legit. I
didn't see any splatter paint on yours. I know it was like the sunset. No it's all the right feels
though. You got it. Here I gotta get a photo of you and I. Oh yeah. Dropping a knee. Let me get
the gloves. Another thing that's really neat about Easter Jeep Safari is every now and then
the Jeep brand will actually debut a new model or a new trim package out here in Moab. In fact this
year they're going to introduce the Jeep Wagoneer Overland package and this is a more aggressive
off-road version of the luxurious Jeep Wagoneer. This model has a more aggressive tire an all-terrain
tire on a 20-inch rim where some of them have 22s. It has tow hooks on the front, tow package in the
rear, skid plates underneath. So if you're the type of family that has a lot of kids or you like a
more luxurious ride but you still want to get out and do some camping this might be the model for
you. They're going to show it here in Moab at their booth down at Walker Drugs and they're
going to simultaneously debut it at the New York Auto Show. I ditched Fred and Dave over at the
Jeep Concepts and now we've rolled right over to the Moab Canyon Swing which is truly only for
the most pure of adrenaline junkies. You swing clear across this canyon you see behind me to
get you all harnessed up and basically just push you right off the cliff. So we're gonna see who's
got the courage to do it today. I don't know if I'm feeling up to it quite yet but I'm certainly
gonna watch. We are going to check out the Mopar Blueprint Concept with Matt Hilburn from Mopar.
This vehicle is basically a rolling catalog of everything that Mopar and Jeep Performance Parts
offers for the Jeep Wrangler, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the Jeep Gladiator. Correct yeah so
a lot of these components are pretty universal between the different trim levels and different
models. You know you can mix and match however you feel like. And do they all come in this blue
color? So the the intent with the blue was just to highlight just how many parts that we actually
sell through Mopar and JPP. So if it's not a part we blacked it out, if it's a part we sell we made
Mopar blue appropriately for a Mopar build. So that by design the amount of blue is just to
showcase how much we actually sell in our catalog. And what color do most of these come in? Just like
a black performance? They're usually black. You know wheel finish may vary but for the most part
everything is black. And then you have different wheels on either side. Correct. And then I also
noticed that on every part there's like a name of what the part is but then also a QR code. Yeah
absolutely so the the QR codes if you're walking around and there's a there's a part you're
interested in you pull out your smartphone scan the QR code and takes you directly to the Mopar
eStore and it'll take you directly to that products page where you can get more information
pricing or purchase it right on the spot. Cool well this vehicle will be on display at the Jeep
booth in downtown Moab as well as all of the concepts later this week. We're going to go down
and check it out right now. We're off the trail and we're at the Jeep Activation Center downtown
Moab. The concept run was amazing today I'm so glad I got a chance to do that. How was the rope
swing? Today was a blast I started my day wheeling and I ended my day at the rope swing where it
turns out I am not brave enough to try everything in Moab. What about you? We had a lot of fun we
saw some really cool concepts and if you are going to visit Moab this week and you want to check out
the concepts some new Jeep vehicles and go for a consumer drive come check out the Jeep booth down
here at Walker Drub downtown Moab.
