Kenny Chesney & Wendell Mobley - There Goes My Life
This song right here was nominated for Song of the Year a couple years ago.
We got all dressed up and went to Vegas.
I think we lost to another Kenny Chesney song, actually. Is that possible?
I will tell you that I remember the first time I heard this song
and my producer, Buddy Cannon, we were not in his Cadillac, Craig, but we were in his truck.
He goes, you got to hear something.
He played me this song and the first words out of my mouth were,
are you sure that we can record this song?
Because I knew it was one of those songs that you just don't come across every day.
As a songwriter, this is the best bridge to any song I've ever heard.
This bridge kills me.
I cry when he sings it.
So this song right here, I just want you guys to know,
I think it might have been the first single off of the When the Sun Goes Down record.
But I remember sitting in Buddy Cannon's truck, hearing this song,
and it was just, I couldn't believe that I was the guy
that got to go out and sing this song every night for the rest of my life.
That's how much I love this song.
Help me out, Kenny.
All he could think about was
I'm too young for this
Got my whole life ahead
Hell, I'm just a kid myself
How am I going to raise one?
See, that's already a great song.
All he could see were his dreams
Going up in smoke
So much for ditching this town
Hanging out on the coast
Oh, well, those plans are long gone
He said, there goes my life
My future, my everything
Kiss it all goodbye
There goes my life
A couple years I'm up on down
A few thousand diapers later
That mistake he thought he made
Covers up the refrigerator
And he loves that little girl
Tried to tuck her in
As she fumbled off the stairs
She smiled back at him
Dragging that teddy bear sleeve tight
Blue eyes and bouncy curls
And he smiled
There goes my life
My future, my everything
She had that heart
With Abercrombie clothes
Fifteen pairs of shoes
In his American Express
He checked the oil
Slammed the hood
Said, you're good to go
She hugged them both
And headed off to the West
Cold
Baby, goodbye
There goes my life
