Max Bruch Violin Concerto No.1 in G Minor, opus 26 with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Emil Tabakov at the Bulgaria National Concert Hall on November 6th 2025 during a tribute concert in the memory of Christian Takoff.
It's only my third time (in too many years) to perform this beautiful work. Bruch started composing it at age 19 in, in 1857, but wouldn't complete it until 1865. After a single unsatisfying performance he decided to seek advice of the great Joseph Joachim who considerably revised it before performing the actual version on January 7th 1868. Up to this date one of the very best works of the romantic period, completely overshadowing his other two concertos (No.2 dedicated to Sarasate and No.3 to Joachim) and even the beautiful Scottish Fantasy, causing Bruch tons of frustration! Not mentioning the few other pieces for violin and orchestra rarely performed.

I. Vorspiel 0:01
II. Adagio 8:47
III Finale 17:58
