Aihole Temples in Karnataka represent the the evolution of two unique architecture styles and is often considered the precursor to the Pattadakal Temples - the zenith of Chalukya temple architecture style.

Located in North Karnataka, Aihole is also often called the cradle of Hindu Temple Architecture and today it's a small village with about 120 temples spread over an area of 5 sq km.

I recently visited Aihole and spent two days there exploring these amazing ruins from 8-12 century CE. The most famous temple here is
Durga temple famous for it's unique shape and detailed carvings, but there are many other beautiful temple complexes here too like the Mallikarjuna Comple, Meguti Jain Temple, Hucchimalli Gudi, Ramalingeshwara Temple and Galaganatha Temple Complex.

There's only one hotel in town called Hotel Mayura and it's well below average. However, there's no option so one has to stay there itself.
