Bubble The Beautiful Mess Bubble Anime Movie Review

Bubble is a 2022 Netflix anime movie, directed and produced by some of the team behind Attack on Titan, and with a script by Gen Urobuchi, the mind behind some top 10 series like Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass. It's set in a pseudo post apocalyptic Tokyo, after bubbles rained from the sky and distorted gravity around the city. Now, orphaned children have parkour competitions in the ruins, with winnings that allow them to survive. One of these parkour competitors Hibiki has a near death experience where he meets Uta, one of the bubbles who's been given life. Together, they learn the truth about this post apocalyptic Tokyo, the bubbles, Uta's nature, Their "The Little Mermaid" style romance, and even Hibiki's own self. With the pedigree of Attack on Titan and Gen Urobuchi, the movie had high expectations. While the imaginative concept, and stellar animation from Wit Studio, the team behind Vinland Saga, may have given the Netflix anime movie a leg to stand on, many of it's other elements lag behind, like it's retelling of The Little Mermaid, creating something that needs a bit of dissection...
