The castle was built in the XIV century probably by Henryk Czirna, owner of Płoniny in Sokolca. The next older castle was rebuilt several times, and its current appearance dates back to 1846 thanks to the work of the German architect Friedrich Augusta Stüler using the projects of his teacher Karla Friedrich Schinkla from the time of his residence in Karpnikach in 1832. In 1978 the castle was adapted for use as a shelter for children, and later a sanatorium for children. Currently the building is privately owned and operates as a hotel and restaurant.
