The Art of Actually Resting | Slow Living in Winter in the English Countryside Christmas Vlog UK

Rok returned again one week after the winter solstice
The nights are long and light vanishes quickly
This is a time of rest when nature allows itself a delay
For many including me this is the most exciting time of the year
It's fascinating how our ideas often don't align with those we hold dear
I studied and built a long life for about 10 years
Yet beyond what I learned
I had a good experience but then I was
destroyed and brought back to life again
I'm sharing this with you to remind you that your
work toward a calmer more peaceful life won't be easy
We all run away from good habits or make foolish decisions
The good part is that once you find the direction
getting back on the right path somehow becomes easier
September is always our busiest
season and we are incredibly grateful
We've been preparing for this most of the year and Andrzej is
taking on the work alone Recently
I've felt a deeper exhaustion
which never comes from a store at
all but from the constant stream
of opinions and trends Of course this is partly self-inflicted
This always happens every time I open
social media and it remembered me again
It's better not to open them too often This kind
of fatigue builds quietly and almost inevitably
as long as all that remains are those
sensitive feelings of fleeing loss and angst
Quick content has become a major part of our daily lives
and I can't believe we haven't yet solved the tools for it
o protect our minds from it
It's incredible what it does for us
I've never struggled with depression or angst
yet I've consumed far too much social media
It makes me feel flat
and uncertain I have
as much as I can share I'm a mother of two
I run a business and
write a blog record
videos and hope to publish a few books
I spent a decade practicing yoga and learning about
nature and folklore yet the
evening of cutting remains
It still makes
me feel inadequate I can't give you
a single solution but this is how I cope with it
It's simply a return to
traditional peaceful values I
turn off my phone and refocus my attention—back home
I'll bake a cookie read a book
fix an old painting
These small yet genuine tasks
They will bring us back to each other Right now
they will steer us far
from perfect homes and lives
at exist only on our screens
It reminds us that we are here
to create to make to do
and above all to live
If you're wondering what I'm doing
I'll apply a brown varnish
to the painting of the state
which depicts a village in
Poland to which my excellent
fathers arrived this was commissioned by my grandfather
for my mother
When I was about 7 years old
my mother had a golden moment
when she fixed several items
around the house in a shiny
gold lacquer including
this painting And remarkably
nearly 30 years later
The golden polish remained
just as radiant and perfect
as it had been on the first day
I love that the brown polis
It makes things a bit easier
without being too intrusive
Another very special piece
of artwork I'd like to
show you It's a winter scene in a circular format
rural Romania
made by Andrzej's
mother and recently
gifted to us by her
She knew how much I loved family
history and that I was trying to
protect as much as I could from
both the Polish
and Romanian sides
e members of our family
I believe this will be so meaningful
for our children
born in and born in Great Britain
to have pieces of their heritage
from the other side of Europe
I'll tend to this
nail polish as lovingly
as I care for my mother's paintings
I'm glad my mother
trusted me
with this
Returning to the paint truly
relaxing I think the most
important thing is to remember
that mental relaxation is key
Rest is just as important
as physical relaxation
We all enjoy relaxing by sitting on the sofa
lying in our peaceful
bed after a long
day yet too often we
reached for the phone
We've finished resting
It might feel pleasant
in this moment
but it actually causes
at our brains are
working harder than ever
Short quick videos
one after another are
designed to hold
little emotional breaks
a very short time One
moment you're smiling
then you feel
surprised then inspired
Then startled
Within just a few minutes
our brains are more stimulated
than ever before
in human history
We'll repeat this day after day
without end through the passage
It's dangerous here because
it will upset us in our
everyday lives making it
hard to focus on reading
when doing simple household
chores you'll find
yourself turning even while watching a movie
Sitting with friends
It's a bit of a slant
but thanks for that
at many people are beginning to notice it and are
seeking ways to heal I think
this is one of the reasons
Why my blog is performing
so well My readers chose the ability to engage
with longer-form content
who feels calm and
I hope inspiring
it's the antidote to cynicism
mind with terrifying content
of which you don't even remember
I don't want to scare you or make
you feel hungry—
quite the opposite
I think things are better
than headlines suggest Many
people are starting to notice
what's actually happening
and slowly returns to offline
hobbies or becomes more intentional
about how they spend their time
online Although I don't drink alcohol
Soon I shared the metaphor
with my readers and
many of them truly
recognized themselves in it
When it comes to short-form content
keep it as smooth as wine
Fine if you've got a snippet or two
and no one should drink six
bottles a day The same applies
to content Choose creators
who align with your values
ose who make you feel calm and at ease
those who inspire you to experience
what they share in the real world
Social media are here to stay
and we must learn to navigate them
without leaving them behind
It should be useful and enjoyable
and how we perceive it matters
makes all the difference
Thank you for
watching and I hope to see you on
the blog
