A 1,200 Year Old British Cave Is Believed To Have The Secrent of an Ancient Lair Of An Exiled King
Archaeologists have uncovered the true origins of Anchor Church Caves, revealing them as the refuge of an exiled Anglo-Saxon king.
Once thought to be an eighteenth-century folly, the caves actually date back over twelve hundred years.
Researchers believe they housed King Eardwulf of Northumbria, who lived there as a hermit after being driven from power.
The discovery may represent one of the oldest surviving domestic interiors in the United Kingdom.
