Caprice No. 1 for Solo Viola — Polina Nazaykinskaya

Over the past years I’ve written several solo caprices for the violin. The viola, however, has quietly stolen my heart, and this piece marks my first attempt at writing a caprice specifically for the instrument. Shortly after finishing the score, I gave it a first run-through myself; what you hear here is simply that initial exploration.

I look forward to hearing how other violists will shape and inhabit this music.
